It’s amazing how VW can design a car ground up right down to every little plastic clip and metal washer, order the right bits to arrive at the right time from all around the world ready for assembly, yet when it comes to brochures and Configurators to sell the actual cars to the public it’s always a mess that looks like it’s been assigned to someone as a GCSE project who has absolutely no interest in the product.

Combine that with dealership sales staff who know ever less about the options than the configurator or brochure does...

I never understand that - there are plenty of jobs that need you to know far more than the details of every current VW model and option, yet the sales staff never seem to learn this information. How can you upsell an expensive option (and they all are expensive) if you can't talk about them? Do they even try to upsell options? or don't they care? Is the only thing thats important that the monthly figure is what the customer is prepared to pay and not push it any further?

@fredgroves; in my experience, the only ‘options’ the sales staff seem interested in selling are those overpriced add-one such as Lifeshine paint protection, VW branded GAP insurance, alloy wheel and tyre insurance that you can buy much cheaper elsewhere if you want them. I dare say sales staff will have monthly targets to hit with these ‘essential’ add-ons. Their sales patter on selling these products doesn’t work with me though.

As for product knowledge of the cars they’re selling; sadly this does seem to be lacking with many sales staff. I have had sales people in the past try and sell me factory options that are part of the standard spec for the car I was buying. When I bought my current car, the sales person was one of a rare breed - they’d been a VW sales person for over 20 years at the same dealership and did know their stuff, which made quite a refreshing change. They still tried to sell me Lifeshine and VW’s GAP cover that I politely declined .

Guess it depends on who you are dealing with - the old hands who are the well known discounters will show you the "add on" list while telling you, "I have to show you this but I advise you to purchase any of these things from somewhere else if you want them"

Its on the "Johnny no-stars" folk in the showroom that say "I could cut you an amazing discount on the price - I'll give you 20% off of our gap insurance...its only 500 quid!"

Yep. Some dealers are great, know their cars and are just looking to make a living. Others are absolute scoundrels. I can remember a dealer close to me offering to give my mum and dad a free 3 year paint warranty. Oh we’ll just throw that in for you because you are lovely people. Problem is, all Vws come with this anyway. Hmmmmmmmm

It looks like the VW Configurator might have the GTI Clubsport on soon.  Just had a look and managed to get the configurator to work and provide a price albeit without any photos.  Being a Graphics Manager myself in the creative industry it is shocking they launch a car and the configurator is not up and running on launch day.  I would have had diciplinary proceedings for less in my job. But do we expect anything less from the VW Website!

Specced a CS - white, DCC, 19s, heated front seats, HK stereo and that’s it to keep it under £40k

Will need a good discount though as I’m sure my employer still thinks you can buy a decent car for £15k

I'm hoping for a good discount aswell, otherwise its going to be a poverty spec order going in

About 12-13% is what you will find.

And as of right this minute, 10% added back on.

I bought my Mk5 through them many years ago. More recently my parents bought their Mini through them too.

On both occasions they were fine.
