Rear Camera Emblem
« on: 27 February 2020, 20:28 »
Hi I am thinking of adding a cheap camera to the rear VW emblem and was thinking if its possible at all.
What Im thinking is to drill the bottom part and attach a small camera to it then wire it to the MIB display and obviously I will have to code it for it to flip.

Does anyone think this will be doable?

Thanks

this is the camera

I'd say you have somewhere between no hope and Bob Hope.
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

It won't work...the MIB unit I am quite certain wil only work with the VAG camera....

& the VW emblem does not "flip"...the hidden camera pushes it out of the way...

Just buy the VW rear badge with the rear camera & fit that

many of these on AliExpress...ebay etc...

Why buy a car like a Golf and then start fitting cheap crap to it?
NOW - 330e M Sport
GONE - 2018 Mk7.5 GTI Performance 5dr DSG, Tungsten Silver, 2017 Mk7.5 GTI 5dr DSG, Indium Grey

I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times and someone had a quote for the genuine thing fitting by main stealer for £450-500 if its that bigger deal to you, I wouldn't want the pain of a DIY one personally! :undecided:
2019 (68) GTI PERFORMANCE DSG - new baby
2016 (66) GOLF R DSG - gone but definitely not forgotten

That camera will be looking at the sky, it is designed to fit the same orientation the number plates lights fit. Coding it is as said going to be a game.

Thank you all. I will look into a proper reverse camera for it.

As mentioned above you can get the genuine one retrofitted by the dealers for about £450 and then it’ll be all integrated properly and coded. Plus you’ll get the warranty with it too.
