I'd most likely go with the Clubsport S backbox. I did look at this option until I ended up getting a full Akra. From the videos etc I've seen seems a good route and it's an OE backbox with slightly larger tips too.

Santa dropped this off a few days early. Got a few more bits coming from Germany too thanks to a certain Mr Robert Kunzmann. Waiting for the condition of the roads/weather to improve before fitting anything though. Roll on Spring 2020!!

Is that the CS S one? Should be a nice mod.

Thanks for your responses guys.

I really like the look of that Clubsport S exhaust and sounds like it won't be too over the top.

I've seen plenty for sale on ebay...so might make a purchase.

In terms of fitting will I need some sort of reducer/adapter pipe as I'm not sure if the clubsport exhaust has a slightly wider diameter than my standard 7 gti?

Cheers.

I've got the clubsport s muffler on my mk7 and it is great, very nice sounding cold starts now. Not over the top at all, comes to life when giving it some, very stock sounding when cruising, I love it.

Fitting was fairly easy and I did it myself, cut the pipe at the middle notches (there are three sets of notches on the exhaust pipe) and it is then connected with an exhaust clamp. The hardest part I found was getting the exhaust hangers off the old muffler to put on the new one! I used a sealey exhaust cutter (AK6838), VW OEM clamp (1K0253141AA) and the clubsport s muffler (5G6253609DD).

It fits perfectly being an OEM part, the bigger tips really finish off the rear nicely, I am very happy with it and think it should have rolled out the factory with it on.

Perfect OEM+ mod, Ryan90GTI I bet you will love it, if I was you I would get it on asap!

Great post, thanks  I've been thinking about this for a while too, if I do decide to keep my car (probably will) I may let the moths out and make a purchase.

Nice mod. Just a word of caution to those looking to purchase a Clubsport rear box, there is a difference between the Clubsport and Clubsport S rear exhaust sections and the ED40 Clubsport does sound tamer than the S version, which as a Clubsport owner I find a shame. On the Clubsport, the pipe diameter is reduced after the front silencer by around 5 mm and I think the back box is more baffled. Still an upgrade for the standard MK7 though.

I priced buying one from VW and it was £600 incl VAT!! The only other option I saw is via eBay from one of the Baltic countries at around £400. It’s expensive but a great OEM upgrade.
