Aftermarket Exhaust - GTI PP
« on: 17 December 2019, 14:50 »
Hi all,

I've just purchased a 66 plate GTI with the Performance Pack.

First thing I want to do to it is sort the exhaust as the stock one is quiet.

Not looking for anything too loud and certainly one that doesn't drone.  Price is also a factor.

What does everyone recommend?  Remus non-res is looking favourite so far, but thought I would ask the experts for teh answer!

Appreciate any advice you can give?

Cheers.

No replies so far and I don't have practical experience of actually fitting one!

However, I have looked into this, the Clubsport S back box (£350) sounds good, giving a relatively small improvement.

Not a brand I have any experience with, but a few tuners I have spoken with have recommended Scorpion systems (£700), I heard one in the metal and was impressed.

You could push the boat out and go for an Akrapovich, having heard one on a TCR, I don't feel it was worth the extra expenditure over the others mentioned?

As and when / if I change the exhaust on my CS, I would probably go for the Scorpion non res.

My advice would be think of your neighbours and keep the nice quiet exhaust.

As you can tell I'm not a fan of noisy exhausts, just unnecessary noise pollution, can't stand being woken up by some Corsa with a 4 inch exhaust and about as much power as a lawn mower 😂😂😂

I'm with GrahamT on this. There is a youth up the road from me with an old V reg GTI which has an exhaust  the size of an old metal dustbin. His car gives the impression that he's is a complete t0sser.

He plays his thumping bass music at full volume as well. What a clown!

Another vote for quiet exhausts. I'm really not sure what sort of statement someone with an excessively noisy exhaust is trying to make..... And apart from anything else, I live in a quiet neighbourhood and am a very early riser for work.

Remus is not the way to go if you are on a budget but IMO worth every penny as the build quality is second to none. I have the quad back box and love it, it is as quiet as the standard at start up but with a deeper rumble. Nice and meaty when you press the go pedal but not too loud to annoy yhe neighbours. I start out for work as 5am so had to factor that in to avoid war with the neighbours.

I'd personally recommend the Milltek - I've got this one...

https://www.millteksport.com/non-resonated-cat-back-exhaust-system-ssxvw230mp.html

It's listed as non resonated but was (when I bought it) the quietest one they did. Its sound is what I'd call "Beefy but not loud".

Probably no louder than my neighbours Mk6 Golf GTI that's had a resonator delete fitted.

I like it as it's now got a sporty sound without sounding like a chavmobile.
