I may be wrong, but wasn’t dual port injection dropped from the gen3 EA888 2.0 litre engine at the same time that the GPF was added as part of WLTP compliance changes? If so, you could remove your engine cover to see if you have the port injectors / port injector rail.

You can see the differences in the two pictures in the third post up from the bottom of page 2 in this discussion thread over on VWROC.com;

https://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/30203-golf-r-2019-wltp-looses-mpi-dual-injection/page/2/

Thought that was only for the R engine?

I thought the GPF was right after the turbo? That pic above being the cat.

I’ve a March ‘18 245PP with very sooty pipes, I really must have a good look under it.

I'm fairly sure it was pointed out to me that the larger round section you can see is the GPF then the cat is further up towards the engine. I might be wrong though.

On the Golf, the GPF is designed closer to the exhaust to remove/reduce the need for any active regeneration, like you would have in a diesel.

In any case, it doesn't matter which way ran you have them. Its just a trade off between having the correct catalyst light off temp, and removing the need for active regen for the GPF.

ALL 7.5 245 PP GTI have the GPF/PPF

The change was made for this model at the facelift. Also ALL 7.5 245 PP GTI have single injection.

The 7.5 230 GTI is different, this did not get the GPF/ PPF.

The 7.5 R had the GFP/ PFF, reduction to 300PS and single injection fitted to get it through WLTP

Nope, my tailpipes have always stayed spotlessly clean.

You've definitely got a GPF then - my R's pipes were always sooty, my 2018 pre-WLTP Polo GTI+ pipes are sooty, but my wife's 2019 Polo GTI+ (WLTP compliant, with GPF) stay spotless.

Direct injection petrol cars are dirtier than diesels if they don't have a PPF.

If you'd got an earlier GTI, you'd still have been a sootchucker!

You can easily tell the performance difference between my wife's GTI+ and mine - that PPF strangles mid-high performance.

Well now I'm totally confused (doesn't take much)  ;D

According to clarky92 - "The 7.5 230 GTI is different, this did not get the GPF/ PPF." - Mine is a 7.5 230 GTI

And yet monkeyhanger says "You've definitely got a GPF then.....Direct injection petrol cars are dirtier than diesels if they don't have a PPF." - and my tailpipes stay totally clear of any sooty deposits - in fact you can still see the standard mild steel grey finish inside the tailpipes after nearly 18 months.

Like I said not that it really matters, just wanted to know. I do know that mine is dual injection as I'd previous checked to see if I still had the additional fuel rail at the front of the engine, and I do ?

The Polo GTI+ EA888 3B variant of the 2.0TSI retains dual injection, and it has no bearing on whether the pipes will soot up or not - only the PPF or lack thereof does.

If yours has no PPF and yet puts out no particulates to soot up the pipes, there's something odd going on with yours.

So whats having no paint protection film got to do with sooty tailpipes?!

If you have a MK7.5 GTI 230 then you dont have the PPF/GPF- you should also have DSG farts

Whilst they didn't put a GPF on the Mk7.5 230 GTIs, did they still remove the port injection? This might be why the Mk7.5 230 tailpipes stay cleaner than (for instance) the Mk7 GTI PP.

Just a thought with absolutely no knowledge to back it up lol.
