GPF - have i got one or not ?
« on: 28 October 2019, 16:50 »
Sorry if this has been discussed to death or not, but I was having a chat with a friend and we got talking about GPF's (Gasoline Particulate filters). I know that MK19 GTI's seem to be coming out with them, but any one definitely know when they started fitting them.

Mine is a May 2018 car (so built in April 2018), and I'm just interested in whether it has one or not. No biggie, just curious. Anyway to visually tell without getting the car up on ramps ?

Mine has one and I got it start of June 2018 but reckon it was built quite a bit before that.

Here's the GPF (the larger section just before the clamps where it goes to the engine and cat)

March 2019, so I know I have one. I would say, if your tailpipes remain super clean inside the ends, then you have a GPF. Major difference between my 2016 GTI and current 2019 GTI Performance.

GPF's were fitted pre WLTP shutdown and pre Summer shutdown.

Builds from May 2018 (when VW started stockpiling ready for the Summer and then WLTP shutdowns) is the estimated date they started to be fitted, but nobody knows for 100% what BW.

I thought the GPF was right after the turbo? That pic above being the cat.

I’ve a March ‘18 245PP with very sooty pipes, I really must have a good look under it.

If you've got sooty pipes then you don't have a GPF.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Nope, my tailpipes have always stayed spotlessly clean.

I'm fairly sure it was pointed out to me that the larger round section you can see is the GPF then the cat is further up towards the engine. I might be wrong though.

I may be wrong, but wasn’t dual port injection dropped from the gen3 EA888 2.0 litre engine at the same time that the GPF was added as part of WLTP compliance changes? If so, you could remove your engine cover to see if you have the port injectors / port injector rail.

You can see the differences in the two pictures in the third post up from the bottom of page 2 in this discussion thread over on VWROC.com;
