I have my parents (both in their 80s) in my 5 door R quite often, and they are fine with it - find it very easy to get in and out of and very comfortable, and I don’t even put the DCC (19s) on comfort (yes, I’m mean like that, lol).

They’re probably too nice or scared to complain

It’s the latter.   And they still like a thrill.  When I go to visit them (in West Yorkshire) they love nothing more than a hair-raising drive over Snake Pass in the R.

Just get an Amarok. Seriously, it's the most practical MPV/SUV/DoeverythingV you could ever want. It's bloody good fun too. It's big, but it's easy peasy to park due to excellent visibility, big mirrors, sensors and a camera. It's not fast, but it doesn't need to be. Your driving mindset changes when you are in such a vehicle.

My parents are both in their 80's and get in and out with less trouble than they do in the Golf, and love the views from the elevated seating position.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Or both maybe, then you have to be very rich I guess. So only for the 'select' few with money trees

I'd love an Amarok but they are mighty expensive

It's not an obvious choice, but you're not wrong Simon. They probably get overlooked due to their utility nature.  I haven't forgotten you calling me a redneck when we got ours.   Seems like you are a fully paid up member yourself now and recruiting.

They are unbelievably easy to get into.

They are expensive if you buy them new, which is why I didn't. There are often very reasonably lease dealers from the likes of Vanarama if you keep your eyes open.

Are they easy to get into really?

At work we have a Warrior pickup we use for various big maintenance jobs and I actually struggle to get into it easily. Its just a bit too high! My elderly parents definitely wouldn't get into that any easier than they do with my GTD (which btw they also struggle with, trying to get over the seat bolsters! I have to pull them out!)
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Yes, the Amarok is surprisingly easy to get into. Just a step up onto the footbar, and then slide onto the seat. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is.  The front seats have grab handles.

My other half runs a Warrior as another of his company fleet (driven by one of his employees) and the Amarok is a different beast altogether. On another level.  At one point he was considering the Warrior so drove it for a week and disliked it intensely.  He then test drive an Amarok and loved it so bought a year old one.  Best vehicle he’s ever had.  It gets used for everything.
