My suggestion would be a 5 door Golf MK7 facelift R-Line TSI 150ps ACT.  Wife has the non facelift version and it's an excellent car.  Nice sporty spec, surprisingly nippy and and great MPG.

Ive got a 5 Door new Golf GT tsi to try out for the day, just had a nice 40 mile drive home in it and first thing is the seats are a lot more comfortable, obviously the car is not as quick as the CS, but it should be cheaper to run and keep insurance etc?

What I suggested earlier....& run on shell vpower only....as the two variable camshafts can make real use of it !!

Also run in "sport" mode all the time or use individual & set the steering & throttle to sport..


& insurance & running cost are way cheaper then CS....& I get 43mph (calibrated) & have the estate version with the older 140PS 1.4lt....but I know it makes circa 155PS as others with same engine & petrol have dyno'd 155PS

When you say you found the seats more comfortable do you mean the actual sitting or the getting in/out part? If you mean the latter I can understand it as all buckets obviously need to have higher bolsters, and you need to go over them when you're entering/exiting, which for someone with agility issues is for sure not ideal. But if you mean the former I'd be surprised, my father with lower back issues travelled with me on a 2hr trip as a front passenger in the CS and after setting the seat right for him, he had a really easy time in the car. He even suggested driving it so I could rest for a while

Good, that's what I was expecting to hear regarding the comfort point( and I knew it wasn't you), I have been amazed by how comfortable the seats are on long journeys. In and out can sometimes be a b**** If I enter in a hurry and hit the bolsters with my thigh, although I forget everything once I've sat on (correction: hugged by) them.

I was reaching a critical point last year when we had to carry the toddler seat in and out all the time and was thinking enough with the worrying of damaging the seats etc, just switch to a Cupra estate and be done with it. But then I thought, it's the car that has given me the most pleasure and the one that feels closer to a sports car than anything I've ever had or probably ever going to have so unless there is really no other choice, changing would be a terrible mistake. In fact I put it up for sale to see if I'd get any buyers and it felt sh*te just posting the ad online. I had two serious buyers waiting for me to set an appointment to come and see the car, then I thought forget all that, it's a 5-door Golf and it's perfect for our family size and needs, I won't change it just for the sake of fearing of scratching the seats, it is able to be used and enjoyed daily with maybe some extra care. I'm now talking with shops for applying PPF or similar on the back of the Recaros before we turn the child seat forward some time next year. Having never been an estate guy anyway I retrospectively can say that it feels great I sticked with it.
