Cheers guys/gals for all the positive comments and advice - it really goes a long way and you don't know how much I appreciate.

Okay, if CCTV is no such a deterrent then I will give that a pass.

Will definitely be fitting those ABS locks and I like the look of those handles Agreeable Slick - thanks for that. Will also be putting up a couple of extra alarm sensors and..... fitting a trip wire booby trap to a sawn off shotgun..... is that covered under reasonable force?

No real news on the car but I did get a call from the Police last evening saying it was picked up on a traffic cam in Cheshire and was being driven on the same plates but they lost it.
F**k don't try that you can't do much to protect yourself either these days I was arrested for abduction for taking a 14 year old to his parents house after he hit my house window with an egg  the rules are all wrong

I was getting money out of a cash point a while back and this guy tried to take my wallet when I was turning around putting the money in it. Luckily I was able to grab hold of him and while I was teaching him the rights and wrongs of his ways someone must have called the cops because two cars pulled up and they pulled me off of him.

They were going to arrest me but for this older cop who pulled me to one side and just said you can't be doing this sort of sh!t any more and then told me to get in my car and p!as off.

Ended up with a broken toe and a fractured bone in my hand but it was well worth it.
A broken toe?
Did you drop your wallet on your foot?
hopefully damage done pulling his foot outta the scrotes arse

I'm not actually sure, I did give him a few kicks once I got him on the ground with kiss of heads but I may have also kicked the ground. The hand injury was caused by slapping him.

Police got in touch with me again yesterday and apparently my vehicle has a disabled tracker on it
Turns out the previous owner had one fitted and after the subscription expired it was deactivated. They have asked me to get it activated as they can't do it because there are charges involved... of course!

So, I have had to contact the company and they said they can send signals to the car but it can take anything upto 72hrs to get a response and if the vehicle is recovered then the cost will be £393!!

Also local plod told me that there is a gang of professional car thieves currently targeting fast golfs and audis in the North West area and that car crime had risen by 36% this year and most thefts were by them breaking into the house and taking the keys or assaulting vehicle owners as they get in their car. So anyone living in the area - be extra vigilant.

Not sure I'd want it back, especially as you have GAP.

Oh, I defo don't want it back but the Police advise that it would be noted in their report that there was a tracker system installed which if the insurance company review then it could affect the payout. I haven't confirmed this with the insurance company but does that ring true?

It's probably the same gang that took two of our cars 4½ years ago. Car's were found quickly (one had been parked up whilst they waited to see if it had a tracker fitted) and the other they were using but they were caught with it the following afternoon.

Thankfully there was no damage to either (the days of them doing doughnuts on council estates is long gone), but one needed new locks as the key was never recovered and the other one spent a week in a police compound and we had to get the key re-coded and new number plates.

In total we were left approximately £1,100 out of pocket but we couldn't claim on insurance as it was split across various policies and didn't exceed each excess.

Over the course of the following two years we received regular letters from the CPS advising of progress on prosecutions, etc., but we were left with the overriding view that the the legal system is only interested in the criminals and not the victims of crime.

Thankfully, none of us were hurt or threatened at the time of the theft, but it was a right pain in the a**e and those same 'scum' have probably now been released early, ready to carry on where they left off!

Funnily enough I was just talking to a friend(who is a solicitor) today who has picked up his new R about your car getting stolen and about being told that it had a deactivated tracker.

He said that the insurance company could possibly not pay out because you didn't do everything in your powers to recover it if you didn't ask for the tracker to be activated. He also said that your insurance should pay for recovery, tracker costs, keys, locks and ignition barrel if found.

That's very handy to know and I'm glad that I asked the company to re-activate the tracker. If... the car is recovered by means of the tracker then it would be very interesting to see if my insurance company would foot the bill for the above. Would rather the car not be recovered and go with the insurance payout.

In total we were left approximately £1,100 out of pocket but we couldn't claim on insurance as it was split across various policies and didn't exceed each excess.

Ouch, that sucks. If the car is recovered then I will be out of pocket by around £900 as I have a £500 excess on the insurance and then the tracking company would want just shy of £400 too. That's £900 I don't have lying around to spare... hmmm, lucky dip on the Euro tomorrow me thinks
