We got done a few weeks back. Fortunately by habit I always take keys upstairs, so no cars taken. Loads of stuff left on the side, and not a single bit of it was taken, so small mercy.

CCTV is a waste of time in all honesty, all police bods we spoke to said the same thing. it's ok, but normally they are fully covered up anyway so doesn't deter.

As others have said, alarms are best methods, and easily installed. We got complacent and didn't arm ours, oh how things have changed. Extra sensors and gets armed every night now. Again, though as others mention, if they really want it, they will really try, which can have other "unwanted" actions associated with it.

Oh PS;

These are pretty decent, we've got a couple of sets now, and paired them with the 3star euro barrels (combined 5 star rating)

Really sorry to hear about this Dave, absolute scum they are.

I took the same approach as Agreeable Slick and upgraded our locks and door handles to the same one's last year, as the original locks and handles on the house were really poor quality. Watching youtube videos of snapping locks and door handles is simply scary. I have not installed CCTV for the same reasons, I would rather try and prevent the break-in in the first place with better security, although some of my neighbours do have CCTV installed.

My car also now gets parked in the garage whenever possible, house and garage alarm goes on every night, security lights etc...

Cheers guys/gals for all the positive comments and advice - it really goes a long way and you don't know how much I appreciate.

Okay, if CCTV is no such a deterrent then I will give that a pass.

Will definitely be fitting those ABS locks and I like the look of those handles Agreeable Slick - thanks for that. Will also be putting up a couple of extra alarm sensors and..... fitting a trip wire booby trap to a sawn off shotgun..... is that covered under reasonable force?

No real news on the car but I did get a call from the Police last evening saying it was picked up on a traffic cam in Cheshire and was being driven on the same plates but they lost it.

Yes, definitely thinking of replacing our lock cylinders, which are ten years old to newer 3 star rated versions - seems easy enough to replace by myself

Sorry about your loss

I know its a pain to fit all the time but i use a Dislock and keep the key to this off the car keys i know they can be broken but hopefully they will just look at and think its one more thing to slow them down plus they have a 2nd key to find.

Just ordered one of these for the front of the house again more of a deterrent.

I unfortunately had the similar experience a few years back with my MK 6 GTI but during broad daylight they smashed down two back doors at 1500 and no one heard a thing !.

The car was found two weeks later on false plates and had been used for all sorts of criminal activity including armed robbery using a hand gun and had a carrier bag on the back seat with two baseball bats in it, they found a finger print on the bag and it was from girlfriend of a known criminal but that was the last i heard.

I like many others on here live in a low crime area but did not consider the toe rags that travel from the nearest city's to rob the unsuspecting while we are out at work, in favour of CCTV it stops them from knocking on the door when you are out to check if the house is empty.

All you can do is fit good locks, lighting and a decent alarm, get a safe and possibly CCTV and never leave your car keys in the house while you are out.The rest is down to luck
Golfgti build quality is average at best.

Antisnap handles ordered.
Already have alarm that we use religiously.

Sad state of affairs, but better to lock the gate before the horse has bolted.

I was getting money out of a cash point a while back and this guy tried to take my wallet when I was turning around putting the money in it. Luckily I was able to grab hold of him and while I was teaching him the rights and wrongs of his ways someone must have called the cops because two cars pulled up and they pulled me off of him.

They were going to arrest me but for this older cop who pulled me to one side and just said you can't be doing this sort of sh!t any more and then told me to get in my car and p!as off.

Ended up with a broken toe and a fractured bone in my hand but it was well worth it.
