I think it is to do with torque ratings. The PP's extra 15 ft lbs of torque pushes it beyond the limit for the 6 -speed.

More torque than the mk7 R?

6 speed dsg rated up to 350 nm whereas 7 speed can handle up to 600 nm. PP is 370 nm, R is 380 nm.
SOLD - 67 Golf GTi PP, 5dr, DSG in Issac Blue with rear camera, keyless entry, Dynaudio, Brescia alloys & DCC.

It is the C02!. The Mk7 with DSG has 149 C02!. The new one i have with more power and the 7speed DSg has only 144 C02

That makes a big diferent in Tax!, anyway here in Sweden!.

And the Mpg is realy good on the highway due to the lower rpm in the 7speed...

The R and the GTD put out more than 350nm in Mk7 guise though didn't they?

Actually, maybe they didn't... 280nm for the R  and GTD In Mk7 guise?

Has that really changed in a couple of years?
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

So the R engine exceeds the rating of the DSG gearbox? In fact my Clubsport is rated at up to 380 nm so again exceeds the rating of the gearbox? And that's before any tuning boxes are brought in to the equation. Doubt it somehow...

Does anybody have definitive information as to the final gearing between 6 & 7 speed DSG?

I'm interested if they are:

*  The same ratio in top i.e 7 speed has 1 more in the range to give closer ratios, or,
* A higher ratio for the 7 speed i.e. an overdrive ratio

On order: 7.5 230 PS, 3 door, DSG.  Pearl black with heated screen, Dynaudio & reverse camera.
