Seems a lot of sour grapes going on here. Speibergs are not horrendous! Neither is the digital display, Think when you see one in the flesh (with Silver prets-Not Black!!!) Opinions may change? But understand if you own a MK7 R

There's a lot of that.  It's very amusing to read current R owners slating the facelift because it now makes their car out of date - get over it, cars get updated all the time!  I remember buying a mk 5 GTI - one month later they updated the rear lights (which looked much better) - that's life!  Some of the comments on here are ridiculous e.g. it's the same car.  What?  New front end, new front lights, new rear lights, new 19" alloys available (which look great), new virtual cockpit dash, new larger infotainment screen (which includes gesture control which is a first isn't it?), an additional 10bhp meaning a 0.3 sec increase in 0-60 times, AND the new 7 speed DSG gearbox.  It's a significant upgrade.  Think it looks great.

Paying 40 grand for it though is complete madness!

Totally agree. I actually don't mind the 18" cadiz wheels too, and in fact, saves me on getting DCC as well.  That's why I really controlled my options list and ended up paying just £27,500 (incl new tax rate) for a brand new facelift DSG Golf R. I just simply can't go wrong with this price :)

It doesn't need to be 40k, you need to decide if you have 40k and if you don't trade off some of the bits.

Its easy to look at the configurator and go "but I can't live without all this stuff" but you can really... exercise a little self control... or dig deep and don't complain :)

Its not like a stock Mk7.5 R is exactly a Fiat Punto entry level is it?

Pano roof is heavy, potentially leaky and rattly.

19's look lovely but with the state of the roads (and its not going to get better) you are just on borrowed time before you smash one.

You don't need DCC if you don't have 19's.

NavPro is nice, but basic nav comes with the car now and apart from the bigger screen and some swipe rights, it doesn't give you anything extra.

Leather? Really? In fact, this more than anything else - its flippin expensive!

Reversing camera? Come on, its a small hatchback with no long backside, its nearly vertical AND you've got parking sensors.

That really expensive dynamic lighting? Its got bendy LED's already - far better than anything you've had before.

Race exhaust kit? Fit your own, cheaper and you get the stock one to keep to put back on.

DSG...  well, in a way this does make sense, because the DSG7 box is actually more CO2 efficient than the manual, the saving on road tax might well make this worth paying for on an R. Go on, you can have that.

Paint... avoid the stupid pearlescent colours and fill your boots.

And for anyone who can't live without a fully loaded R, bear in mind that after 1st April, if the vehicle list price including options is more than £40k, there'll be VED implications. You may negotiate a lower (than list) price with the dealer, but it's a £40k manufacturer's list price that triggers the additional VED charge;

How did you manage that price with options? I thought I had a snip at 31500, 19"prets,pan roof, 5 door, DCC on top of yours, no tints though.

Couldn't agree more. When I ordered my CC I ticked all the boxes and thought to myself I have to because I will regret it later. When I done the deal on the GTD it was too late to change spec and the only thing I had to have was the sport and sound pack so I only considered the cars that had that and was night blue. Couldn't be happier with the car. I will add car-net soon though and the pedal and tuning boxes are a must along with some minor cosmetic changes.

The rear camera on the CC was a must, I've driven vans with more 3/4 rear view.
5 door GTD in night blue collected 1/3/17

I was just quoting journalists on the virtual cockpit and new infotainment system. If anyone is wondering, I actually don't even have a mk7 golf, let alone a pre-facelift R, I've got an old 2008 Audi A3 that I'm looking to replace. So from an outside perspective it doesn't seem like much of a change to me. Like the new lights and 10bhp more are minor changes to me. New front end and new 19" alloys are a personal preference, some people prefer the old front end and some won't like the new alloys (which are optional anyway).

I used Nationwide cars who gave a massive discount on the base price. Options are not discounted though which suited me as I only added some 'light' options.

Please feel free to PM me if you need any further assistance.

What delivery time did Nationwide cars say? I thought in the other thread some people were a bit cautious about them.

12-14 weeks. I was one of the people that mentioned the long delivery time because that's what one of the sales guys told me. However this is not the case and was confirmed to me by the company director.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding come this June when I expect delivery. I think everyone on this forum who ordered in February should be expecting a June delivery.

I heard there was concern that the cars would be first registered to Nationwide but i'm guessing this was a load of rubbish?
