Very good point, never heard that.5 term nonsense before to describe a Face lift model, certainly not used in the car industry.

I've seen ".5" being used for donkeys years. Mostly on forums admittedly. Usually for the Passat and Polo, which have had mid life facelifts more frequently than the Golf.

As for MK8, I'd guess it'd be mid-late 2019 before it's revealed... tricking into showrooms by early 2020.

Yes, precisely, the .5 designation tends to be forum speak yet it's now been adopted by dealers (possibly orders from HQ?) which kind of answers the question of where dealers get a lot of their information and speculation from...

My work's lease company refer to it as "17.75", which I guess is a MY.

Quite a lot to like but do not like the digital dash. Looks like my grandsons video game.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Don't know about 7.5 being 'nonsense', it's just a way to distinguish it when talking sh1t online. 7.1 is probably more realistic for the level of changes. Better than 'LCI' however you look at it!

Not a chance of being as late as 2020 for the mk8 - from 2012 to 2020?!

It is now March 2017 and the Golf facelift is just starting to appear in the showrooms. You don't think there is a chance that the facelift will be around for 3 years? When I think about it - 2 years does sound a bit short!

In theory the Mk8 could be announced next year in 2018 for a 2019 release. However, as Jonny Logan once sang, "What's another year!"

The fact is we don't know. My educated guess is, the Mk8 Golf will be released and/or announced in 2019.

Might not be far off. Surely they will give the facelift a couple of years at least which your then looking at 2019 for the MK8 and early 2020 for the performance golfs

Thing is, if VW wanted to make the most out of their investment in the actual mechanical bit of the car (chasis, engines etc) then if you can swap some of the plug in technical modules out for newer ones, then it makes sense to do so.

To be rigidly bound to something like a 7/8 cycle makes no sense when the consumer buzz is about the rapidly moving technology. Some of you might not like it, but it does sell cars to the bulk of the public.

I wouldn't want to be trying to sell what is supposed to be the best selling car in the world when the competition had things like LED lights and decent mobile phone integration and your flagship model didn't.

When you are getting your butt kicked by a Dacia, you need to move with the times.

Thats why they have done the 7.5.

I remember back in 2013 when the Mk7 came out, its tech really was cutting edge....

The 8, well, I'd expect to see it touted late in 2018, maybe appearing in 2019.

But don't buy one of those, the 8.5 and 9 will be along soon ;-)

Didn't the Mk6 refresh (LED tails/drls etc.) only last about 2 years before the Mk7 was released?
