Didn't the Mk6 refresh (LED tails/drls etc.) only last about 2 years before the Mk7 was released?
AFAIK those options were already available. They were just made standard.

Some people referred to the Mk6 as the Mk5.5. It was a bigger style change though. The facelift style changes are subtle. I do wonder if Joe Public will notice or will they look and think, "it's just another Golf!"

The 8, well, I'd expect to see it touted late in 2018, maybe appearing in 2019.

But don't buy one of those, the 8.5 and 9 will be along soon ;-)
The 8.5 will be the one to wait for. They should have ironed out most of the Mk8 problems by then

The mention of the Mk6 facelift has made me wonder -

How long before the facelift, Mk7.5, Mk7.1, Mk7v2, new/nouveau/neu Golf becomes just the Mk7 Golf?

Over on the Audi A3 8V forums the facelift is now just the A3. The original car is referred to as PFL A3.

On another note: My wife drives a PFL A3, she does not even notice the facelift A3. Just like the Golf, the changes are subtle. My parents have just changes their 9 year old Mercedes C220 Sport (grey) to a new C220 AMG (dark grey). I wonder will other people notice?

The Mk8 should look different, but to most people it will still be - just a Golf!

Interesting you use the description "classic Mk7" cause that's my line of thought.

On 1 March I took delivery of one of the very last Reflex Silver Mk7s to be built and before I bought it (it was already being built as a speculative order for the dealer), I looked at and thought about the 7.5.

However, I think the Mk7 will in future be the "classic", not the 7.5 for reasons of just about all the changes that have been made.....apart from the extra 10hp!

I realise this will p*** off anyone who has ordered a 7.5 but it would be a boring old world without different views.

On another point, the very large dealer I bought the new GTI from has at least a dozen used Rs for sale and only one GTI (which is reserved). They sold my traded-in Mk7 GTI in less than a week.

Yup

Another random thought: Why would anyone who owns a Mk7 want to buy a Mk7.5. They are the same car.

I guess that sounds better than 'old fashioned' Mk7

They don't do reflex silver anymore  and you will have proper dials

There are those who will prefer the Classic Mk7 style. It's just not for me. I prefer the updated/modernised look of the Mk7 facelift.

People are not going to be offended unless you start using offensive language about their car choice.

I personally wouldn't move from a GTI to a FL GTI but I would be tempted to move to a FL R. I appear to be one of the few who like the new TFT display and the new DRL's. Think the small styling changes make a nice difference but still too conservative for me and not aggressive enough. Now add the akraprovic exhaust system and it becomes very tempting
