Your current analogue clocks aren't actually analogue anyway - they are fed from an digital sensor feed and the needle is actuated by software....

Well you don't say, next thing I'll find out is the throttle is driven by wire instead of cable

The point was in regards of introducing yet more electronics (a (Chinese) screen is always a screen) where they don't serve any purpose or offer any benefit over analog gauges instead of making you feel you are driving something futuristic.

If its any help, I see the brochure says they can give you dinosaur clocks on your GTD/GTI/R as a zero cost delete option.

Just say "I want to go back to the 20th century" three times, click your heals and tick the box on the order form

Funny but I'm probably younger than you and I actually grew up right in the IT/tech explosion of the last 20 years. Yet some things being done just for the sake of looking hi-tech and cool just look silly in the end.
Mind you I am not universally against digital clusters. Smaller or indifferent "mass consumption" vehicles with dull interiors will surely benefit and look more upmarket than they really are and the non-petrolhead will probably think it's nicely colourful and fancy. I just don't think they have a place in performance/sports cars. Every one of them I've seen with a digital cluster loses "matcho" points and gives the impression of a toy.
Tesla had good reasons to go full digital, an analog gauge there would indeed look like a dinosaur but that's a whole different car/philosophy. As long as we are still driving internal combustion engines, nothing will ever look nearly as fascinating as a nicely designed, illuminated red needle going up the revs like crazy. I play car video games at home (though less often nowadays), I don't want the same feeling in my actual (sports) car.

"Removal of Active Info Display - No cost option"

The Active Info Display is a £495 option, but deleting it is a 'no cost option'! Why VW UK, why!

I'm really disappointed. While I don't want it, I'm not sure I would delete it if there was no cost saving. Trust VW UK to feck the car up for so many people.

I think the new Parker alloys are much better looking than the Austins. Everyone has different tastes.

I think I might have to go on the VW and Audi sites tonight to compare FL R and FL S3. I already know the S3 will have less equipment but nicer looking seats and Aluminium doors that feel more solid than the thin steel of the Golf's skin, and prefer the S3's standard wheels to the R's standard wheels, but the side silhouette of the Golf does look a little better than the Sportback's.

Not sure what level of broker discount I could achieve on either right now or what I could get privately for my R - will have to look into what they are going for on the used forecourt and adjust accordingly.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
