Order now. If you wait for the facelift, it might be uglier (I think they took the MK5 and hit it with the ugly stick to create MK6). If there's more kit on the facelift, you'll be paying for it in higher list price (A3 facelift is significantly more expensive than prefacelift to pay for that extra equipment it gained.

I started to think just the same this afternoon after passing a mk7 gti in red.

I really like the look of it, having had one I know what I'm getting and it does fit our needs right now and that's a bonus.  The deals are good at the moment and I'd hope that all the teething problems with the mk7 are sorted, so at least I shouldn't have any major niggles.

That's said I would like a digital dash in my life should that be an option

There's always going to be another model around the corner. There'll be a facelift, then a Mk8, then eventually a Mk9 and so on. Same applies these days with phones, TVs, computers or anything technical, anything you buy is almost out of date as soon as you get hold of it. If you like the current model and the deals are good then I think you should just order it, life's too short.

We should know what the facelift looks like in a few weeks. Will Mk7 order books close that soon?

Is the Mk7 that nice looking? It has never grown on me. I just think the front end is slightly out of proportion. The way the front lights poke into the side wings just does not look right to me. Though I do think the back of Mk7 looks much better than the back of the Mk6. But who buys a car because they like the look of the back!

I'm hoping the facelift will sort out the proportions of the front end.

That's part of my issue, we might see the new car in a few weeks but that's when the current finance offer ends ????

Would be nice to have a crystal ball but guess I'm just gonna have to hold out for now.

If you do order now, make sure that finance offer with the £2k deposit contribution and % APR is locked down for your order.

I was all set to PCP mine as the R's GFV was through the roof when I placed my order (£18.5k after 3 years), but I was refused the terms when the GFV had dropped to about £15.5k after 3 years not long after placing my order. I ended up buying it outright (and there were no incentives on the R at the time).

The last quarter of the year is a pretty quiet season for dealers so I'd expect the October offers to be better than the peak season summer offers. Particularly if they're binning the production after Xmas.

... my thinking also. Especially as there is a facelift - there could be some bargains sitting on dealers forecourts. My local dealer has a GTI sitting in his showroom. It would not be my choice of colour or spec. If the run-out deals don't get a buyer - then it will be pre-registered or an ex-demonstrator with another few thousand pounds off. I may be tempted if it was the right price.

Though, if I prefer the style of the facelift then I would probably get it.

I very much doubt a pre-registered or ex-demo performance Golf will be found cheaper than a new one with healthy discount and PCP contributions currently on offer. Never seen a £25-30k performance Golf with 6k off because it was pre-registered, unless that money is against the RRP of a stack of optional equipment that you may not have specced yourself. Also, technically a "used" car, you'll get worse APR % than that available on a new one.

The nearly new used VW forecourt is rarely competitive against a new car with maximum discount obtained - that is why so many of us here buy new.

If VW sales are pretty buoyant right now (I think they are, they don't build to excess/stock like Vauxhall and Ford regularly do), I don't think you're going to better the £2k finance contribution available right now.

Never liked the oversized front and rear lights of the MK6, the less aggressive looking front end and all those curved creases they put in to replace the sharper lines of the MK5 - it was like VW gave the Golf a Toyota Auris makeover. The 20% price increase over the MK5 for almost no additional kit also helped me choose a Scirocco over a MK6. The MK6 is my least favourite Golf after the MK3.

... eh? I had a Mk5 and have no idea what you are talking about. It was a lot softer and more curvey. It looked like a big old Vauxhall Corsa. Glad they went back to a more angular German looking car.

We both agree about the rear of the Mk6. However, the Mk7 headlights are just out of proportion to my eyes...
