Hey everyone,
Finally purchasing a Weber carb for my 1.8 Golf GL this week as I have had nothing but issues with the Pierburg 2E for the last few months.. I've had issues where the revs have gone a bit mad and are stuck at around 3k, making sat in traffic not much fun. Then the massive over run when you kill the engine which just sounds awful.. Pretty sure this is related to the waxstat and fast idle speed, but i'm sure a new carb will help solve many of these issues.
I'm pretty excited for the build as i'm buying a Weber brand new, but I have a few questions..
1) Whilst the old carb is off, is it worth be changing the 'Channel O Ring' (Think that's what it's called..) - I have a new one ready to be fitted, so is it worth doing that before fitting the Weber?
2) How easy is it to fit the manual choke that comes with the Weber kit? I've tried to find some info on this online but failed. Is there an easy way through, any photos of where is should sit inside the car?
3) I'm not a huge fan of how much space the original air intake set up takes up. Would it be worth while fitting a bolt on air filter such as K&N or RAMAIR to bolt on to the carb? Would this more likely cause carb icing? Also, where would the connections/pipes go that are currently set up in the original air flow system?
Thanks for all your help,
Stefan
