Range Rovers have excellent residuals... not my cup of tea though, even if you can actually drive into/out of a muddy field in them.

I was looking at the weekend at people trying to park (badly) huge great big supertankers in the shopping centre multistory and thinking that I loved that my Golf was easy to park!

Its quite funny watching them go around and around looking for the perfect space! would drive me nuts if had to do that every time went anywhere, but you can understand why, as even the perfectly formed Golf can be quite tight in some places that visit, especially the multi stories with concrete posts every 3 bays.

When I was driving a RR a few weeks ago I was waiting behind someone in their Ford Focus trying to get into a space. They took five or six attempts to get the car into the space before they gave up. I drove along side the car in front and reversed into the space in one go.

It is not always the cars size that has people driving around looking for a space.

These weren't RR's they were trying to park.... one guy had an Audi estate - maybe an A6? Took 20 shuffles to get into the space and then couldn't get out.

Another was a woman in a Nissan Qrashkai - the big one, not the small one. She tried 4 spaces before driving away.

The final one was a young girl in a Ford Ranger pickup truck.... who almost hit me trying to get this thing into the space. How she made it under the height barrier at the entrance, I don't know.

Its a combination of ever decreasing space sizes vs the stupid things people choose to drive.

Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Agree, its not always the size of the bay but the drivers themselves, as some really should not be allowed on the road or in car parks!

Must admit that given the low price was swayed to option the rear view camera as apparently it makes it easier to line up in some of these aforementioned tighter bays.

Have parked quite well without one for many years and never have issues in the Golf, so think it was the cheap price that had me pick it opposed to any need, which makes no sense at all I know, but maybe it will make things that touch easier as said same about auto hold and love that.

I'm pretty tempted by the new Tiguan R-Line - as others on here. I think it looks really really nice. Tech looks intriguing and generous too. But I'm gonna hang on to see what the Mk8 GTI looks like first. Still plenty happy with my current Mk7 GTI (apart from occasionally struggling to get all its power and torque down through its front wheels - frustrating). Won't stretch to an R though. Running costs too high. I do about 12k miles per year.
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR
Past: MK7 GTI / DSG / WHITE / 5 DR

Cars that you sit higher up in are far easier to see out of and therefore position with far more accuracy. Reversing a trailer is much simpler when sitting higher up. I get a much better view of where I'm reversing my 7.2m caravan when I'm in a taller vehicle, than I do in my Passat.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Wondered if someone can help,

I'm in the process of speccing and ordering my New R.

Spec I want is as follows:
5 door Dsg (Nav)
Limestone Grey
Rear view Camera
Car net app
Leather
Keyless

I have the following offers on the table

Lease on a factory order 5 door Dsg (Nav) with Keyless and rear view camera (8000 miles or month) at approximately inc tax and maintenance for the term at 299pcm with 2500 upfront. This gives a real money of £390.70 or 6000 miles at 289.45 pcm real money 381.55 (not including additional mileage but it works out the same) but it isn't the full spec I would ideally like.

The PCP via orangewheels is a 3k deposit at the spec I want over 48 months at 6000 miles a year at 354pcm (this includes the Deposit contribution but not loyalty which could bring the figures down slightly. But this doesn't include Tax and maintenance servicing tyres etc is obviously extra.

I currently have leathers on the GTD and find them very easy to wipe clean if the little one makes a mess. what are the standard seats like on the R. Comfort I appreciate are prob the same but what is the wear like over time.  Any ideas? If I remove the Leathers from the equation the Monthly PCPs will decrease further and if I get them to throw in the loyalty discount in that that wil come down further.

Just a thought on the seats - I've just purchased some Gtechniq I1 to use on my seats to baby proof them! That's the aim anyway, should greatly improve the ease of cleaning at least. Going to treat some new trainers with it too :)

I may give the GTechniq stuff a go on my R when I get it.  The seats have Alcantara on them so although it is a great fabric to have it can be bugger to clean if certain things get on it.  Awesome fabric, just requires a bit of care but still hard wearing enough for day to day use.

I bought my Golf R outright with cash so have no real idea of PCP leasing and how to get the best out of it.  I am sure the others on this forum will help you though.
