So, what are we mk7 owners buying next?
« on: 03 April 2016, 10:19 »
My phone has just rudely notified me that the memory is almost full so I had a quick look to see how many hundreds of duplicated photos can be deleted off it.
I then came across a pic of the first demo mk7 GTI I saw in a dealership, one of the launch models minus a radar.
A quick look at the date on the pic and it was May 2013 - nearly three years ago already!
That brought home the fact there's going to be an awful lot of PCP's and leases coming to an end this year, not to mention warranties and general owner boredom.

Therefore I decided it's time to resurrect the "what next?" thread that was much used in the mk6 section a few years ago.

I'll probably  be looking at a Mk 10 GTI judging by the length of time I owned my last car

That reminds me of when I was getting some work done on my CC and my wife dropped me in to collect it in her 6 month old Mk6 GTi and we both looked at one and my wife said, dam that makes mine look old.

Waiting to see what the Mk8 GTI looks like. If it's a munter (like the Mk6) then I'll look at the Tiguan R-Line for something 'a bit' different. Gotta see what it looks like the flesh first though.
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR

There was a mk6 R cabrio parked next to the GTI (out of shot) and the first thing I thought was how far the mk7's wheels sit into the arches.
Thankfully I usually have a stock of wheels and spacers to fix that!

Tall cars and pseudo SUV's seem to be all the rage at the moment and I can see a lot of Golf owners move to Tiguans. The new ones are pretty handsome cars. Even I could be persuaded by a 240 TDI.

I'll definitely be keeping the R until i've seen what the MK8 performance models look like - i'm expecting a minor facelift effect  like the MK6 was to the MK5 (but hopefully not taking a nice looking model like the MK5 and uglifying it like they did with the MK6). If they don't hit it with the ugly stick and there's the option of the biturbo TDI in a variant at least 240ps, I could see myself going back to the black pump with a MK8.

All the above would be dependent on not getting screwed over on the residuals front with my R if dieselgate is still having effect.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Ford Focus RS. Not a Golf but it will scratch the itch i still have for RS Fords. Sad to say but the Fords I've owned and the dealers involved have always been spot on and never anything other than efficient and driver focused. Loving the GTI so will keep it until renewal time. Too much negativity towards / from VW / customer service to reinvest big money again.

I dropped a clanger,I should have kept the mk5 gti instead of trading it for a mk6 as  they are the same platform underneath.
If mk8 has the same platform I will probably wait as this mk 7 is a gem.

2 more years on my lease so will wait to see what the MK8 will be like. Hopefully RenaultSport will develop the new Megane RS by then and hopefully it will not be more expensive than the MK8 so might pull the trigger on one. Until then I will continue enjoying my PP GTI and the non-resonated Remus quad exhaust.
