Been to my dealer today and had a test drive in a new Tiguan. Very refined and composed on the road and overall a very pleasant place to be. Digital dash is excellent and clarity very good. Didn't like the head up display, found myself having to crane my neck to see the display. Won't need to tick that box then !!  Full size electric panoramic roof is epic and sliding and reclining individual rear seats mean that even with the drivers seat adjusted to my liking I still had loads of leg room. Only down side was they didn't have a RLine on site. I went out in a SEL on 19" wheels.
Looks like I may have found what I will be having next 👍👍

Glad you were impressed with the Tiguan, thats the spec we've ordered to replace the GTI, a standard SEL with only the park assist and rear camera as well as dynaudio, we've gone for Indium grey. I popped in to Stourbridge VW last week who had a white R line awaiting prep but i must say i was pleasantly surprised at how good looking they are! The R line looks really aggressive in real life.

I've had a testdrive in a couple of 07 Mini coopers this weekend, one with very high spec but needs new rear discs and pads and also has an issue with jumping out if second gear, and another one with lower spec and a slipping clutch!

Gave a guy at mini works a call about the first ones gearbox who says it's quite a common problem with cars of that age and he's replaced a few "selectors" in the past, approx £300 for the part and an hrs labour, i've made an offer on it but they have another viewing booked so i doubt i'll get it tbh, it's been ages since i've driven a car without a turbo!

"when" I change my car if I get a Tiguan it will definitely be an R line. Salesman said that could well be a few more engine options coming here over the next 12 months including a Bi Turbo Tsi 2.0l petrol with around 250bhp 😛👍

*UPDATE* Found a R line this morning 👍👍👍

You can move the angle of the HUD you know. If you couldn't then how the hell could people using different seating positions use it.

The R Line Tiguan was on my final list of 3 cars as its a real looker with decent specification and sure would have been happy with ordering one if there was not just this huge R itch to scratch and just know I would be sitting at lights in my nice shiny Tiguan R looking over at the R next to me and wishing chose that! It was win win really but even seeing that photo very happy pushed the button on the Golf R

Might be my next one though depending how the R goes as really do like the Tiguan R Line, think they nailed it really for that type of vehicle.

That's as maybe and would help some but personally, I just think it's an expensive gimmick and didn't like it at all.

I kinda get why any of us here who love performance Golfs would like a powerful BMW or a Jag but I don't understand why anyone would want to go from a performance Golf to a pseudo 4WD low end small SUV, whether its made by VW or not.

If you're gonna drop top dollar on a chelsea tractor, why not make it a real one?

Not too sure on the display no matter how effective it is (another screen in my day!) let alone the HUD element which is really a gimmick of highest proportions and not something would ever select.

Think the displays will replace dials as standard though which think is a shame personally. But they will be much cheaper to produce once the R&D costs drop out of the equation.

Pretty much why selected the R in the end, could just see myself sitting in my Tiguan wishing had the R next to me for all the reasons you would love an R

So Tiguan in addition to? a second car, then yes, but not quite ready for my slippers yet and really glad the new and shiny attraction of the Tiguan was replaced by more sensible thinking :)

Did look at Range Rover by the way, and unless buying the real top of range ones way out of my price bracket, was hugely underwhelmed by them

Range Rovers have excellent residuals... not my cup of tea though, even if you can actually drive into/out of a muddy field in them.

I was looking at the weekend at people trying to park (badly) huge great big supertankers in the shopping centre multistory and thinking that I loved that my Golf was easy to park!

Its quite funny watching them go around and around looking for the perfect space! would drive me nuts if had to do that every time went anywhere, but you can understand why, as even the perfectly formed Golf can be quite tight in some places that visit, especially the multi stories with concrete posts every 3 bays.
