Jeez, do people really pay £500 a month to ride around in a new car?

Oh yes, people pay a lot more than that too. In my case, a car allowance from my job covers around 2/3 of my car payment so it doesn't seem like such a large outlay.

I wouldn't want to be paying anywhere near it for a Golf but one of the cars I'm looking at is £907 a month with nothing upfront and that is on a two year lease with 10k mile per year. It doesn't half make the prospect of an R more appealing and something like a Tiguan for the wife rather than one car for both and a small fun car for me.

Maybe I'm reading into it wrong but come the term of your PCP you should have some equity albeit maybe just a few hundred pounds.
I don't see the difference between going full term on a PCP and going full term on a lease. Both will give you no extra to pay!
Yes, but we probably want some of our cake too :) Rightly or wrongly, I chose PCP as I believed it would give me more flexibility. With the current VW used market it doesn't seem to offer any improved flexibility. As it stands I don't think we will have any equity on our GTD's come end of turn - quite the opposite infact. Case in point - the dealer I bought my GTD from offered me 16k for a March sale - so just 3.5k over the GFV with 2 years to go!

I know the best thing I can financially do is hand the car back in 2 years, but I don't think the car will be big enough for us with a dog and baby.

If you factor in the deposit I'm paying 420 a month over the 4 year term for my good spec GTD - and that's after a 11% discount - so it's pretty easy to end up at 500. There are a lot of benefits (sometimes requirements for work too) to be spending this much though.

I'm facing exactly the same situation. My GFV on my GTI is £13,560 after 4 years. I'm 2 years in and been offered a p/x value of £15k from a BMW dealer, £17k from a VW dealer. I got a 13% discount too (equated to around £5k) so you might have thought I'd have been in a better position but as we know, the values have fallen off a cliff. Hopefully they might stabilise a bit and we'll do some catching up as we pay our monthlies.

Think I'll be reaching 50% of total contract value and voluntary terminating to be honest (I'll get there at 40 months) and moving to a personal contract hire on a 2 year deal. No negative equity to worry about at all. PCP hasn't been anywhere near as flexible as I thought it would be (as it was sold to me...)

MK7 GTI 3-Door DSG, Tornado Red, Discover Nav, Winter Pack, ACC, Keyless Go, Reversing Camera, Service Pack... Ordered 28th Oct... Collected 1st March!

Got a quote. 4 year PCP 7-8000 miles per year details below. They won't match the Drive the deal price with DTD I have to find a buyer for my Gtd.

Coast2coast calculated the same monthlies on a 3yr PCP. birmingham saying 40quid more for a three year PCP. Now just waiting on Carwow. prob with PCP looking at losing 16k plus over 36 months.

Leasing may be the way forward to prevent such a loss of money alternatively I may have to look at alternative cars.

Not me but my daughter, picked up a new TT on Saturday.

Initially I wasn't a fan of it but its lovely inside. The virtual cockpit , not to everyone's taste adds a touch of class. The seats are fantastic (Alcantara / leather). It just seems in a different league to anything I've been used to in a Golf.

I don't see the appeal of tt's. every tt I have ever seen has made me feel ill, thinking part of vag made that. I can't stand them, yet people seem to treat them like the sun. A beautiful car to me hasn't been made by anything to do with vw since the karmann ghia, but my interpretation of the word beautiful must be different, the mk2 golf and sport Quattro were the best looking in my opinion but not beautiful at all, a 250gto or db4gt is beautiful. No offence meant to anyone who likes tt's.
