LSG... I have one, its metallic beige. The colour is soooo marmite, but I've decided its definitely metallic beige and a bit like diarrhoea.

Only 9 months left to go, then I'm going for another colour.

Seriously, worst choice I made.

Light plays huge part in how car looks on the metallics, my plain white virtue is that it's pretty consistent, you get what you see,  where as some of metallics flatter to deceive and maybe that marmite feeling on the LSG

Shame you feel that way a colour tainting the experience of car that much but an experience really do not want to share so really doing my due diligence on this - cabin experience is not going to change much so happy about that so it's just getting that walking up to car and loving it as much as when was delivered part right

LSG looked best of three saw today on cloudy day but none grabbed me to choose any and the black R in the showroom was most disappointing.

CSG would be my choice but think pretty much set on the R signature colour now of the Lapiz, unless have £500 extra floating around once selected options for Oryx

Midnight Blue never gets much mention but there is one see regularly at gym and though not had me really thinking to for myself it is decent colour for the R

Think the coated Pretoria would look good on most colours and they were what liked most today so shame they not an option
I would highly recommend Oryx White for the WOW factor.  I currently own a GTI PP in Oryx and it does turn heads for the right reason, I even now, still look at my GTI as I did when i first picked it up from the dealer.  You will see a difference with Oryx from pure white in most lighting conditions and when you do it's awesome.  I know it is an extortionate price, but it was the first thing I ticked on the option sheet when I ordered my R recently.

I might need to go to Specsavers in that case because unless it is sunny or under lights I can't tell the difference on my car. If it is sunny and you are wearing polarised sunglasses then it looks spectacular. Yes it is expensive but it is worth it.

Went to relatively local dealer today and talked myself out of the DBP from R saw in showroom, be far too much commitment to keep clean as know from owning two A3 in black and does hide some features, quite liked the silver R, preferred the Limestone but loved the presume coated Pretoria on the Silver R unless a new option? Which would take on white car

Think Lapiz will be my colour now though, as changes mind again!

Saw an R Line Golf and badging is too much like R for me, it's only as personally know not R from wheels etc many would not know difference

Some quick snaps

This silver was at a garage though likely one of salesman car but one question was have  these Pretoria been coated or are they Able to be ordered somehow?

Also the CSG is a serious miss on the R as works so well with the chrome elements but Lapiz is signature colour assigned to R and doubt that ever changes

Having seen all R colours in flesh now except Oryx it is down to Lapiz and White as my final choice

I have just ordered a Lapiz R, it looks an amazing colour and unique to the R as well :)

Going in tomorrow to talk R I know the spec. Just colour real was riding towards TR but then may go towards a Carbon grey.
I don't think you'll be getting carbon grey somehow

I meant Limestone he he.

We have a Reflex Silver 3dr R on order and have chosen it specifically for the more subtle looks as it's my wife's daily and she doesn't want a load of attention in it.

IMO black wheels look good on very few cars and the silver R in the pictures looks dreadful, sometimes less is so much more.

I would agree, black wheels do only look OK on certain colour cars.  I had briefly toyed with the idea of black wheels on my white R, but felt the diamond cut Cadiz or light graphite coloured Pretorias looked better than black wheels for my car.  I would agree also less is more apart form when you are ticking the check boxes on the options list

My circumstances are changing later this year, as a Frank junior is joining the scene in October. Now I know a hatchback can easily still work for a growing (starting!) family, but we also have a dog to fit in the car somewhere and I'm erring towards an estate.

I've had my eye on a petrol BMW for a while, so a contender currently is to move to a BMW 330i touring. I can still chose a manual if I want to in that car also but I could be open to going auto if I don't think I will miss manual too much.

The 340i touring could be an option too (33k after discounts, although auto only), but with my sensible hat the 330i would probably be quite enough (even though only a 4 pot these days) and hopefully give similar or better in gear performance as my DTUK GTD. That inline 6 though...

Now, the R Estate wasn't really in my thinking - but seeing Wigit is going for one did make me think about it. I'm not won over by it's looks compared the the Hatchback, but in the right spec perhaps it would be worth looking at too. It's also interesting that the R has bigger boot space than the 3 touring - which I thought would be the other way round!

Other contenders I've pretty much ruled out are the A4 Avant (petrol engine choices aren't great IMO, with the 250bhp offering looking a bit overpriced), similarly the Mercedes C class estate petrol engines are limited to a 180bhp or the 360bhp C450 - and nothing in the middle.

Some other marques don't even offer petrol - looking at you VW!!

Other than that, a bit further down the line I could see myself going hybrid or full electric one day. The first crop of hybrid german cars don't seem to offer much just yet, but surely it's the future? The Tesla model X or S look promising too.

I've driven a Golf R estate, if you can get past its looks it will serve you well, the boot is massive and also has useful under-boot storage too.
I vote Golf R Estate ;)

Funny enough, I'm looking at some similar cars. I got some prices on a 330i Touring, a 330d Touring and a 340i Touring. I specced them up pretty much fully loaded and the 340i came out best on a PCP deal. £35k after discount (£11k knocked off!), £2k deposit and £495 per month. Pretty amazing really for what is a £46k car with a beautiful straight 6. Pretty amazing deal. If I could shift my GTI and come out reasonable on the equity front, I'd go for it tomorrow.

I was really surprised about the boot! I guess it just means a GTD estate must be even better without the transmission intrusions? I'll have to take a look at one in person I guess won't I, perhaps that booty just doesn't photograph well :)

Ha ha, yes mate - I remember we were both intrigued by the 340i on a previous thread - maybe in saloon format then? Certainly was for me anyway. Did you get to drive any of those in touring/saloon yet? I'll get in touch with the better local dealer shortly to see about driving what they have/can get.

You quote for the 340i sounds impressive if it was pretty loaded - was that from TRL or something? I've only looked online so far, no enquiries made (so broadspeed, coast2coast). Did the 330i actually come out worse in the deal, or was it just so close it was better value to go for the 340i? If I find I do want to stick with manual it will rule out the 340i as the touring loses manual as an option as you've probably seen!

I'm wondering about going very light on options this time round, and in which case I might just lease. Nationwide offer the 340i touring at £395 a month with 3 months initial fee, for 2 or 3 years. So for 2 years it's around £480 a month - which is less than my GTD has cost me now over 2 years. If I kept the GTD 4 years it may (or may not) work out better, but it does make me think about PCP.

As for my negative equity, I'm probably still close to 2k negative (hopefully not more), but if I settle my finance now I will save close to 2k interest - so I am actually break even in terms of the next 2 years other than any equity I might build up - obviously a more painful way to approach it though!
