New Golf R options
« on: 15 February 2016, 11:17 »
Guys as you may be aware I placed an order on Saturday for a new Golf R, am undecided on which option to pick between either SatNav or Keyless Entry and Winter pack.....My dealer is giving me either or for a discount price of £700
On my current Gti PP I have full leather, Keyless and SatNav, so am torn between the options to have on the new R

Thoughts

Do you use sat nav often? if not and you find keyless entry the better option go for that.
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

Are you speccing the Car Net App-Connect option for £125?

If you are, between those items, I would choose the keyless and winter pack over the nav because you can hook up your smartphone via App-Connect (CarPlay, Auto Android, Mirrorlink) and use either Maps or Google Maps for the nav.  So nav largely redundant.

Keyless is just brilliant, works seamlessly.  I have heated seats (which come with leather) but if I was going with cloth interior, Winter Pack would be the first thing I would tick.  Could not be without heated seats ever!

When I use SatNav I use it, but where I stay its not really needed but its nice to have. Keyless my wife loves it and said she would miss it.....am in two minds just to go with Keyless and Winter Pack

This Car Net App, when you say google maps does an image come up on the screen of the map?

It's difficult, but even though Sat Nav is rarely used, I feel it is seen as a requirement on a car of this type and will be required when it comes to resale.
Personally, I would not buy a GTi / R without it, even though I know a decent smartphone is likely to be a better option in use.

Yes it does.  Apps are restricted by VW but Apple's Maps work on iPhone and Google Maps on Android.  So whatever permitted app is running on your phone screen appears on your media screen.  So you can run music, messages (via Siri) and phone all off app-connect.  Only downside is you have to connect the phone via USB cable for app-connect.  When not using the phone for app-connect everything else works as normal and can be connected via Bluetooth as usual. But for app-connect to work you have to plug your phone into the USB. It's great for Messages on the move too.

I have Pro Nav but here's me running Maps from my iPhone on screen:

And here's the more general screen

I think that used to be true, but if the car has smart phone mirroring or app connect functionality then it's much less important now.

If you aren't choosing the app-connect option then I would go with sat Nav, but in-built Nav system is a huge cost, which starts to look even more pricey when for £125 you can run nav off a phone.

I'd be tempted by the Kenwood retro fit on nav, i do like the Pro Nav but now you get the connect i'd be tempted to do that first

Heated seats is a given my cold blooded wife

Keyless never really interested me, i'd never pay extra for it

I'm sure they will be due a spec uplift as the GTD is the only VW where the only option for me would be the paint

Great feed back guys, looked the Car Net App on You tube and looks the biz, so will be ticking that box and scrapping the SatNav.
Keyless entry also will be a ticked box as the wife likes this, so all good so far
Just waiting on the deal for the extras from the dealer!!!
