Would you buy a VW (R) now ?

At the ripe old age of 66 I pick up my new R next week, and only £260 for a years Ins - whats not to like

Just tested an R to replace my Mk6 GTI and the wrong side of 70!

I'm nearly 40 so nearly the wrong side too - people can call it a midlife crisis or whatever but who cares when you're driving it!

I would imagine that Rs Focus is going to be a cracking car but im also the wrong side of 40.I think sometimes maybe im to old for the R. Someone at work asked me if i was going through a mid life crisis when they saw me in my MK7 GTI. He's a plonker anyway but id be lying if i didnt say for a few seconds he did make me think am i too old.

I really liked the look of the previous Focus RS, but seeing one in the showroom, back then I thought I was the wrong side of 30, never mind 40.

When I see the new RS on the Sky Sports football add breaks, I really like that too, but I'm 46 now, so that ship has long since sailed. The classless styling of VW's however, mean you can get away with a higher performance model at any age.

The pics of that RS in the sky sports commercial look great but I'm nearing my 40's as well and not sure if I could get away with it. Plus being a wee bit of a badge snob, I don't know if I could live with a Ford. The Golf R on the other hand, I think anyone of any age could drive. My dads friend who is in his late 60's is a huge Honda fan and in particular the Type R and was about to order the new one. However after I  took him out for a drive in the R I had on loan he decided to get the VW and now has a very nice tornado red R

Your never to old  For an r rs might be a different matter though.

To be fair though I have been told I am to old, almost 40, for the GTi on more than one occasion and I haven't even picked it up yet. Once by my boss, he never liked me, and once by the sister in law whose first words were "mid life crisis is it then?".
My response is that I just haven't given up on life yet, or I would drive a people carrier or something similar, no offense if anyone does by the way

My sentiments exactly. The other car is a Scirocco which I also love.

To digress - Stopped in a car park about 5 years ago after a walk in the Peak district by a copper when I had the MG ZR 160 - hoot to drive . He asked if it was my car so I said it was my wife's. His comment was you are too old for a car like this. My response - I've got a very young wife!

Really p*****s me off when people mention mid life crisis.
I'm 52 and have ordered my first GTI.
What should I have ordered, a Nissan Qashqai or similar pseudo SUV?
Most people don't have enough disposable income when they are younger to afford the car of their dreams(whatever that may be).
It's just a knee jerk jealous reaction to call it a mid life crisis.
