I have a job that I enjoy and no longer feel the need to buy such luxuries. When I had jobs that I didn't like, I would spend money on nice things to compensate for the drudgery of the 40-50 hours a week.
Thinking about this if i did what i really really would like to do, i would probably be the same. You are a lucky man.

Edit- But then again i think i would be back looking at cars when i had achieved what i would really really like to do and make a living from it. The Love of cars does it ever go away if its in your blood, i have my moments but i always come back.

carl1, you do realise asking a question like that on here is akin to walking into a church on a Sunday and asking if you should say a prayer that day or walking into KFC and asking the lazy fatties whether you should gorge yourself of greasy sh!te today?
The answer all round will be "hell yes".

As for the job: why did you leave the building side in the first place? Was it recession related or because you got fed up getting frozen or soaked for six months of the year?
Sometimes slow and steady wins the race with jobs, especially if you have to raise finance. And sometimes you've just got to follow your heart.

Why not buy the R Estate first, then you've got the options open. The heart ceases to become a factor as you'll have a top motor, and you can make a measured choice sans emotion....

I've just bought one and haggled hard.

Use the fact it's near Christmas and sales do slow down plus with recent announcement of vw sales 10% down people will follow like sheep. Go in at last week in Nov and start haggling.

What % discount did you get for your haggling? Used or new? If new was it already in stock?

In the camp of do it!

The present issues with VW do not concern me at all with regards buying a VW, in fact it would give me more confidence over their governance as they certainly cannot afford new ones after this substantial hit has passed.

Maybe we will get some decent incentives too as they want to attract custom.

Went little safe on the GTD but mainly as mileage was supposed to be a lot higher but all things being even come March then will be selecting an R without hesitation.

Life has to have its pleasures and you pick and choose which ones usually and this is where quite happy to place my extra £

I agree. All of this emissions nonsense doesn't alter the fact that the Golf is a fantastic piece of kit.I'm more than happy with my recently purchased GTD.First VW in about 10 years and the quality and engineering is just fantastic. They have put an awful lot of thought into the car.
On the news the other day that UK sales are down on all makes.People are a bit nervous about all of this emission business. So are holding off from making their purchases.
As others have said. It's a good time to bargain for an R.Watch the market/news.Wait till it all bottoms out (soon) then go in low and hard.
PS The market at this time of the year dies a death.Until about Feb.Get in!.
