Probably will get shot down in flames but if I was buying today then personally I'd look to the Focus RS instead of the R. It's considerably cheaper and faster than the Golf and their build quality is on par with VW today.
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

I can't disagree with that.
Plus the RS has arguably some better colours to choose from.

Unless like me you're the wrong side of 40 maybe. Then there's a bit of a question mark.

Precisely. Ford Performabce division are really on form with the Fiesta ST release. Possibly the best Ford they've made in a long while so they're on a high with the Focus RS and being able to do 0-60 in 4.7 seconds is unbelievable for a manual gearbox, shows how much power the car has. With a remap it'd hit 400 easily and literally ticking every optional extra hits £33,000 which you could negotiate down to close to 30k easily.

I've tried so hard to like the new Focus RS but I jus can't warm to it at all :undecided:, and I do love my Fords!!
I can't get over the fact it's only a 5 door and I don't like the dash of the new focus, in saying that I'm sure it will be a fantastic bit of kit :cool:

I would imagine that Rs Focus is going to be a cracking car but im also the wrong side of 40.I think sometimes maybe im to old for the R. Someone at work asked me if i was going through a mid life crisis when they saw me in my MK7 GTI. He's a plonker anyway but id be lying if i didnt say for a few seconds he did make me think am i too old.

If you are having a midlife crisis, you're in good company on here - in a minority if you are not the wrong side of 40!

No you are not too old to drive an R or an RS.

Another 42 year old reporting in!

I came from an M235i and enquired about the RS and was ready to place an order. Although the RS is sure to be a firecracker I personally felt the FRS was lacking in class in the way the R bathes in it. Just far too in your face. Plus my eldest daughter said I would look silly driving one  :rolleyes:

I think the R is just as fast as the RS will be and a lot more under the rader  :cool:
