Am I the only one left...

Who is still driving and loving my GTI?

2 years and 4 months from new, 28K miles. No problems.

It still makes me smile - every day.

No there are still loads with GTI's they just don't seem to want to talk about them.

Step forward GTI drivers, this is a GTI forum after all.

It's refreshing to hear from someone who is not moaning about the car. People tend to share their woes but not so much their joy......bring on the GTI love.....

We totally love our GTI after 2 years.....it still feels special to drive everytime which is becasue of 2 things...it is good to drive and really its a second car to us...so only done 6000 miles. We have had almost no real issues (just a couple of noises I had to figure out) VW service has been good so far and have no intention of changing it any time soon.

I still have my GTI PP (Oryx White) absolutely love it.  I still can't look at it enough without think what a great looking car it is.  It is also a great car to drive, still give it a spurt in sport mode now and again when my wife is not in the car, which brings a smile to face even now 2 years in to ownership.  It will be sad when I do trade it in eventually in the future.  Was thinking of an R but then i just look out the window and keep thinking should I do it just yet.  I am currently waiting to see what the GTI Clubsport and Golf R400 maybe like next year, but still have that feeling deep down that I should just hold on to the GTI PP as it is such a great car.

I can also say that a colleague of mine at work has just signed the paperwork for a GTI.  He currently has a GTD was going to get a Golf R until the salesman who was going to give him £4K off the asking price told him the trade in price after a set amount of time will only be £600 more than a GTI, and the GTI hold residuals better.  This was all he needed to hear and went for the GTI instead.  I am sure he will not regret it.

I'm loving mine.  I feel it's getting better as well after a few thousand miles as everything settles down and beds in.  The general problem round here is the sheer volume of traffic, almost constantly, so it's rare to be able to enjoy it fully.  Also it's pothole and speed hump city.

Ken - what were the noises you had with yours?

 Perfect!  Surely time for a pic update?

And great minds think alike. Got the Conti 5s as standard (hurrah) and just yesterday ordered some Bosch Aerotwins for mine. The OEM one's are ok, but despite a bit of adjustment, in the last 2/3 days of constant rain they skipped bits of the windscreen. So they will be swapped.

I'll go now as mine's not a GTI.  :embarrassed:

Loving mine too! Had it about seven weeks, it's in the best colour () and fairly standard. Many of the 2000 odd miles I've covered so far have been for no useful reason whatsoever and for that, I apologise to the planet but it's been great! I'm surprised at how flimsy some of the bodywork is compared with my old Audi but presumably that helps to keep the weight down. Probably. Will look at changing the footwell lights to red soon as others have done but that will be it mod wise for now.

My work friends have taken great joy at mocking me - tales of cleaning the exhaust tips, taking the wheels off to wax them and drying dew off with my towel have provided them with plenty of ammunition and they have indulged with glee. Jealous of course! (In my mind at least).

Next year I'll have the car machine polished as there is some damage to the paint inflicted by the garage I bought it from (it's an ex-demo) but in reality it is very difficult to see. But for now it has a good coating of sealant (with another coat for good measure planned) and the wheels being waxed has really helped make cleaning them much easier.

I think these cars have some real character, unusual in a modern car and definitely become as much a hobby as a means of getting from a to b. The fact that they also get from a to b in an exciting way (if you so wish) is the sticky cake topping!

Sorry for the waffle, being distracted by Top Gear and a good pint!
