Are you tempted Simon?

Nope. I appreciate a nice car and actually quite like the idea of a quick estate, but don't have enough desire to want one anymore.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I know it's all about opinions but what is the deal with prets?
For me, they are very average looking wheels and VW should be doing much better in the design department for a car like the R.
They suit the car quite well, are light (for 19"ers) and don't have any fussy bits in the design.
But one of the big draws is that there's no polished sections.

Polished alloys look fantastic gleaming in the sunlight but are designed for countries where they either fit winter wheels during the colder months or they just don't get cold weather.
Santiagos look fantastic but there are lots of tiny spokes that make them hideously difficult to clean, and nigh on impossible to clean the inside of the wheel if you're not armed with very specialised wheel brushes.

Then there's the issue of repairing them once damaged or when the winter salt has got under the lacquer.

That's why Pretorias are popular.

I can get most of the inners of my Santiagos clean from the outside but once I over-reached, panicked and couldn't remember how I'd twisted my hand to get to where it was! I had visions of the Fire Brigade being called out!

Beautifully summed up.  Agree with every single point.  Pretorias are great because they are the perfect antidote to over fussy, heavy, and kerb magnet, overdone diamond cut alloys.

Lucky you don't have them then. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

No more Pret bashing from me as I know I'm in a small minority who aren't too keen on them.
And besides, my van is sporting 15'' steelys with big thick ( Continental ) tyres .

I didn't want prets with mine, but that's all I could get hold of without waiting the 9months. In the flesh they look awesome and suit the R to perfection. There is another Lapis blue R around here on standard wheels and looks nowhere near as good as mine on prets....and he knows it 😏

I think the Cadiz wheels would look far better if they were 19's. Hence my comment about the R having 19's as standard.
