Hi Becs, I'm glad your still loving your car (I obviously knew you would), btw them amount of miles are pathetic lol, I've had mine a month less and done 3300 miles I just can't stay out of it.
Regarding the rubbing noise on lock, VW have been trying to contact me all this week as they want the car back to investigate it so I can't blame the for not trying, if I'm 100% honest it hasn't made a sound for 2 weeks now (which obviously is a good thing) but will not help leaving it into the dealers with nothing to investigate, so I'm holding off until it returns.
I also believe it is very weather dependant, the sound only appears around a certain temperature, this sounds crazy BUT i believe it's true
Anyway I still love the car, it's truly an awesome car, very happy

I think the M2 like the old M1 might be one of those rare cars that appreciate in value so a second hand one may be more expensive, it certainly wouldn't surprise me

You could be right.  It's certainly a very much anticipated car.  Or, it could be like the M3/M4 whereby you can pick up a year old one with thousands off what a new one cost - loads of them around!  Only time will tell!

Hi Ian, your're right to wait until it starts again.  At least they are now acknowledging it properly which is a step forward if it does turn out to be more than a weather induced effect.

I know my mileage is pathetic atm, I feel shame, lol.  Mind you I usually only do average mileage per annum - about 9-10k so not mega miles.  I tell you I feel disappointed when my other half says we are taking the truck on weekend outings.  Might have to put my foot down, literally, haha.  Still the R gets lots of use in the week but not necessarily lots of miles.

The city traffic in Canterbury has gone into total meltdown.  This morning it took an hour to drive 2 miles and that's becoming a regular occurrence.  It's been all over the local papers the last few weeks.  Even worse, I work in Transport and Environment section of the local council and we are responsible for trying to resolve the transportation issues.  Fortunately my remit is the Environment side of things (green sh!t as my boss, the transportation manager, calls it, lol).  It's killing my average mpg.  Normal runs get 27mpg and 24 when traffic is free flowing but on days like today where I spent 3 hours of my working day sat in traffic, it's 14mpg.  Costing me a bloody fortune in petrol, although to be fair 2/3 is paid by work.  But is the R worth it.....YES!  Anyway, will do my best to clock up some more miles and Yorkshire trip will help.

Keep us posted on your car.  Have you bonded with your new wheels yet, or still on the lookout for some more?  Any luck finding a set of reasonably priced genuine Prets yet?  Glad you are still liking your lovely R.

Still not 100% on the new wheels Becs but there are times when I look at it and think it looks good
Funny thing is everyone else seems to love them, even my mum and dad lol

Still looking everyday for a set of prets but nothing has appeared, it will take time but will hopefully get a set sometime

The R Estate is still an abonimation in my eyes.  It shouldn't exist.

As VW Driver point out, it's the next in the line, Passat V6 syncro, Passat W8, Passat R36... Yes I know they are all Passats and there is the current Passat BiTDI, but the Golf is probably the same size as older fast Audi A4 Avants, and they did alright.

The biggest let down to me is the stock rear lights with tungsten bulbs as opposed to distinctive LEDs.

Yeah I see where you are coming from, but the Passat has never been a hot hatch.  I stand by my objections.

The stock rear lights look crap on the estate, apparently it's to do with the volume of how many are turned out - more cost effective to raid the parts bin of normal estate, or so I read elsewhere recently.

Are you tempted Simon?

Why not get a set of BBS XA? Close in style to a Pret, wider and in a better offset. And best of all - cheaper (but far from cheap)
I'd like a set of XA's myself.

I know it's all about opinions but what is the deal with prets?
For me, they are very average looking wheels and VW should be doing much better in the design department for a car like the R.
