My car has very similar miles to yours Ms B and also has weird front end noises at very low speeds when steering lock is applied.
I wonder if the problem is winter related as I'm sure I don't remember mine being noisy until recently.

Apologies. I shall show myself out.

Let me get the door for you (only joking). Was nice of you to visit.

Fancy an R Misterp....no?   such a common car, I don't blame you.

Honestly as I said earlier I would but like others have said concern is The GFV But definitely as you have said and others fantastic car from the 2 hours I had one on Sunday.

On a separate note my GTD makes a noise on a full lock from time to time dunno what it could be. Tried to look for a cause nothing to report.

The full lock noise is a consequence of winter I think.  Has it only started with the colder weather?

I understand your concerns about GFV etc.  The R is a great car. The fact there's a lot out on the roads doesn't bother me at all.  I couldn't care less, but if it's rarity you want.....

....this way to the Clubsport thread  ➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️➡️     Which I'm sure will also be a superb car.

I'm reclaiming this thread as an R thread.

I agree Mr Ex, I think it is all to do with winter.  Now I only got mine right at the end of Sept, but the weather was very mild and there were no knocking, creaking or rubbing noises at full lock or in any other scenarios.  It only started when the temps dropped and humidity changed, and this is why I'm not overly concerned about it, or planning to further investigate until spring has come around, hopefully bringing some warner weather with it.  Will see what the situation is then.

The .:R Estate is featured in the issue of VW Driver that landed on my mat this morning for those that are interested.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

It's more the brokers websites than actual dealers that I'm looking for just to give me an indication of what discount I could possibly achieve. BMW are not quoted on DTD, Carwow, orange wheels etc

Which Beemer are you looking at Craig?  Why don't you hold out a few months and go for the M2

If only Mark, it looks awesome. It's a bit outside my price range and I think they may be all sold out but I would love one that's for sure

Hold off for a year, pick up a 9mth/year old one - someone else has taken the hit on the high price (and the pesky 1,000 mile first service) - then it'll be even more appealing!  Looks an immense car!

Mine popped through the letter box at lunchtime too. Not looked at the mag yet.

Can't get my head around GTD and R estates.
At least the GTI hasn't been diluted in such a way yet.
Sorry, did I say GTI in this thread? OOPS!

I'll have a look at my copy tonight, if it's turned up.

The R Estate is still an abonimation in my eyes.  It shouldn't exist.  If they ever produce a GTI Estate, I'll be very, very depressed.  But setting aside my obvious prejudice against it, it still looks 'wrong' to me, especially the rear end.  The lines don't gel.  Simon's Passat looks much better.  A hot hatch should NEVER become an estate.

Now, now Mr Ex!  All joking aside, anyone can post whatever they like in here (within reason, ahem) but since there already is CS thread surely that talk is better in there???

I think the M2 like the old M1 might be one of those rare cars that appreciate in value so a second hand one may be more expensive, it certainly wouldn't surprise me

As VW Driver point out, it's the next in the line, Passat V6 syncro, Passat W8, Passat R36... Yes I know they are all Passats and there is the current Passat BiTDI, but the Golf is probably the same size as older fast Audi A4 Avants, and they did alright.

The biggest let down to me is the stock rear lights with tungsten bulbs as opposed to distinctive LEDs.
