What did you think of the GTI after test driving it Misterp?
(Obviously not fallen in love with it enough to do a deal today!
)
Wait until you see a car with the new nav screen and see whether you still think the tech pack is worth it further down the line closer to ordering or wait 12 months to see if an ED40 appears
I really enjoyed it. The 19s don't tickle my fancy. With the roads the way they are in birmingham the 19s make it abit 'bumpy'. The auto seems a bit..... Eh if you follow my drift. I may have to go back to a manual if I really want to enjoy it but Im lazy now having had a day box for the last 5 years.
Otherwise solid what I expected. I really enjoyed it but like you say not that much to want to make the jump. The m135 I drove was a blast but a bit too twitchy for me to be a daily driver.
I will wait until the new screen goes in. The increase in price takes into account two options I would have specced anyway so it's not really a change but I am curious to see if there will be a ED 40.
The M135i sure is a massive hoot to drive and I'm surprised in this day and age a German car company is brave enough to market something that raw. It's not dangerous to an inexperienced driver like an old 911 but it sure is tail happy! Huge fun. I'd be tempted with one for sure.
The PP GTI isn't massively faster than a GTD just a bit more eager and revvy and on some days you'd prefer one car and on other days you'd prefer the other. Depending on what you were doing and where you were driving would make one preferable to the other.
It's funny you're considering a GTI as I've often wondered whether the GTD would have been of more use to me over the last year and a half and in standard form I much preferred the GTD mk6 to the GTI which might sound odd as I owned two mk6 GTIs!!!
I honestly thought it would be the VAQ diff that would make me really appreciate the choice of PP GTI over GTD this time round but in fact it's the bigger front brakes that make the real difference I notice day to day. Having owned mk5 and two mk6 GTIs with the 312mm front brakes they're fine 99% of the time but every so often you really feel you could do with the 340's when you need to shed speed quickly after someone does something stupid in front of you or a bend comes up a bit quicker than you thought...
I'm not a DSG fan so can't comment on the gearboxes. I love the technology behind DSG but just not how it second guesses you and either changes up too quickly or holds revs too long. I think it's ideal for lazy drivers or those that do trackdays but not for incompetent people like me!!!
