Have just spoken to my dealer. The price for the tech pack on the GTD/GTI is correct at £1240. He had to get one of the managers to speak to the factory to confirm this. He is going to try to add it onto my order and will know at the end of the day if he was able to or what delay there would be if i do add it on.

Haven't got time to contact my dealer till tommorow (full on work day today) but if anyone going for an R gets confirmation of the Tech pack price being £1840 could you please post it here (not that I don't trust the configurator)

If it's correct, I'll probably go for it on my R order just for the better screen size and resolution.  I can stomach a £555 cost to upgrade but not the original £1k VW were asking.

Thanks

If I could get it for the GTI/GTD price, i'd probably just add it on to my R to take it through to the Sept plate, i'm getting a bit numb to the wait now. I'd really like to get an official explanation as to how the R pays £500 more than the almost identical for everything bar the engine and headlights GTI and GTD.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yeah that would make good sense as you've waited this long!

I'm with you on this - I too would like an explanation as to the £500 price difference between R and others for what are exactly same products.  Price discrimination!

Unfortunately haven't got time to pursue it today but will drop my dealer an email tonight and call him tommorow.

I'd have thought the R option price was the correct one surely?
The configurator is always so inaccurate. The polo GTI launch has been full of wrong information on the configurator which means VW haven't moved forwards at all since the golf GTI launch. The whole configurator needs a makeover anyway.

Interesting to see park assist also added with the parking pack on the R too.

Both the packs look good value by VW standards, particularly the parking pack but the tech pack too at GTI/D prices as they presently stand.

I think we will see revisions to this soon - sadly VWUK do not have their act together with their website. The GTE launch was a shambles and not even sure thats sorted out yet...

I wonder whether VW group outsource the website or run it with their own team in house?
It doesn't look as flashy as even say Ford or Vauxhall never mind BMW on the VW site which I guess suits the corporate image but it is getting very dated and the SEAT configurator still seems like it's stuck in the 1990s. Understandable I guess as that's when SEAT did their best models maybe...

If they ran it in house then it would explain the slightly dated design but the wrong information (not just a BIT wrong) points to a huge communication black hole in VW.

Anyway, back on topic, I think the packs will get a big take up if the prices are correct.

Managed to get a call in to my dealer about this and he's going to find out and get back to me (not today).  He remembers seeing a vw bulletin about these packs but isn't yet up to speed on it.

I mentioned the discrepancy between the GTI/D and R tech pack price and he doesn't understand why there would be any diffrence.  I'll post any update.

I think the fact that VW UK is a licensed importer and not the actual parent company designer/manufacturer is always going to be the issue - the distance and language barrier only makes things worse...

It always amazes me that a company as large as VW AG doesn't sell the cars to the UK dealership group (we have Europe's largest new car market - we simply don't hold onto our cars as long as anyone else) themselves and cut out the middleman. VW UK are useless mediators when the dealerships or authorised repair centres cock-up and are never willing to take the blame for their own shortcomings. They don't have the balls to tell VW AG to man up when they drop the ball either.

Showing as £1840 for the Golf Match too

£1240 is the price on the GT and R-Line models which already have Discover Navigation standard. So either DNS is about to become free on the GTI and GTD, or the price is wrong. Either are plausible explanations!

Its the same with all manufacturers really, VW UK are merely an importer.

Do we know for sure the Tech Pack is a factory incentive and not UK specific?

Yes, the Tech Pack for £1840 is something I would have gone for. Too late for me now. Thank goodness I did not order the DNS Pro as a separate item.

I think the £1240 for the Tech Pack for GTD/GTI models might be a mistake as neither of these cars comes with DNS as standard, unlike the GT which does come with DNS as standard. On this car the Tech Pack is £1240.

Anyway, I am pretty narked with this Tech Pack business and the almost definite introduction of the 6.5" Screen as standard from BW22 onwards.
