Looking at the joint between to two panels, it all appears to be original and not being repaired. That extra lug with the hole in it is probably what that section of the shell is hung from when transported along the production line.

What is odd is that the original light fits with it still in place, but the LED's don't.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The extra metal is because your car is white. The white cars were made as prototypes and have all sorts of useless extra bits of metal added here and there. The extra weight is just one of the reasons white GTi's are slow...

:)

Really?!?? I feel so special now

You'll see once I do the comparable pics why they don't fit. The LEDs have a lot more going on at the back of the cluster whereas the standards take up half the space.

Maybe they cut them off all MY2010 and onward shells in case they were destined to be GTI/D's?

Did you manage to fit them?

Just wondering how the LEDs are as I am planning to get some from Xenonz too.

This thread got me curious so I popped mine out this weekend to take a look, especially as this was the next upgrade I was going to do.

Anyway here is my 59 Plate GTi with one light removed.

Excuse the dirt, car is due a clean, just haven't got round to it yet!

But it looks like I'll be fine to do the upgrade. :)

Is that overspray I see on that bottom light clip?

Possible, when I got the car from VW there was some small pant repairs I wanted doing & I think the back bumper was one.
