Bend lighting error
« on: 08 December 2014, 08:37 »
On the way out this morning the car threw up the following error:

Error: bend lighting (afs)

Anyone seen this before. I do intend to call vw service department as I couldn't find anything in the manual. Booked in with VW with the warning that they may charge for diagnostic to which I respobced I wholly expect this to be covered by the warranty

I had the same error last month, took the car to the dealer. Apparently it was just a burnt bulb, they changed it and it was all good.

Agree, I had the same when one of my cornering bulbs blew some time ago. Worthwhile checking this for yourself without a trip to the dealers ?

Had this happen to me a couple of days ago too. The yellow bulbs that turn on while in reverse or cornering are both out. Not sure if it's a fuse issue or something else. I wanted to upgrade them to the Nightbreakers anyways but haven't had the time yet. BTW is it hard if I wanted to fit them myself, or does it need mechanical work? I am booking my car in tomorrow to check on the error.

I have the nightbreaker fitted. Let's see what they say then order a replacement pair.

It's very easy to do no mechanical work required.

So it was the bulb. Asked them not to change as I don't want a cheap yellow bulb for which they will charge 16 quid. More annoying than than, after spending bourse cleaning and detailing the idiots have washed it. I didn't realise they would wash it for something so small.

I'm a little surprised this isn't reporting as a blown bulb rather than an "error". The computer should be able to detect a blown bulb.

That's what I asked of the service guy. I can do it myself I don't need to mess around with dealing with Vw.

I just wanted to thank everyone for this old thread.  I got the AFS bend lighting error message and thought something serious was wrong.  Following the advice here I found out my driver side static cornering bulb had blown.  Changed the bulb and all is well.

I should also say that changing it was really easy with the big circular plastic cap giving enough room to get at the bulb.  The passenger side one is a bit tighter for space though.
