Oil pressure switch/ warning light light flashing
« on: 01 October 2014, 13:27 »
HI
I noticed a few days ago my oil light started flashing, on my GTI mk3 8 V, ADY engine code.
It seemed to be coming from the oil pressure switch high up on the engine block. It's the brown one.

I bought a replacement from GSF, fitted last night, topped up oil, still got the flashing light.

The switch I bought from GSF says it is 0.1-0.35 bar, the VW one I took off was marked 0.1-0.45 bar.

Could this be my problem, or should I be looking for something else.
It may just be a coincidence the switch was leaking and the light started flashing, I'm a bit lost as to where to start.

cheers

your engine has two switches for oil pressure

when does the light come on? does it beep as well?

It comes on pretty much straight away and stays on. No buzzing or beeping though.

Hi
yes, the original leaking switch was a brown one.
Any idea why the new GSF or ECP switch will not work? Is it the wrong pressure rating or is the normally open/ closed function incorrect?
cheers

You have two oil switches, one is for low pressure one for high.

Depending on which engine you have one of them is NC the other is NO. Do you have the part number of the one you put in now?

Hi
Yeah, it's the low pressure switch, high up on the engine block.
VW part number: 056919081C.
The vw one is stamped 0.1-0.45bar, the GSF switch is stamped: 0.1-0.35bar.
I went on the GSF website, entered my registration, and this was the one it recommended. I did also give them a call to verify before I ordered it.
cheers
