Ok, noted. It is, however, well documented (on here, and many other places) that the revs being limited at 5k can be caused by the cambelt slipping a tooth, amongst a few other things. If there is even a slim possibility of this being the root of the problem, the potential for damage by 'tricking' the ECU into allowing the engine to rev over 5k is significant.
A more sensible approach would be to have the fault codes read, and proceed from there.
