16V No spark / no fuel pump prime
« on: 31 July 2014, 11:17 »
Hi guys. Just stuck with this and after some advice.

I know there's a lot of threads about this however I'm stuck so thought i'd check this out with you before I tow it to the garage.

I am getting no spark from plugs or from the coil. However I can no longer hear the fuel pump priming when ignition is turned to no. 2. Could this cause no spark?

It is strange as two weeks ago I changed plugs (bosch) , leads(beru) , dizzy cap and rotor arm as they were a bit old. The car started first time after changing these. Drove it a few miles that day. Turned it off,  and drove another few miles back home.

However the next day went to start it and it would just turn over. I have since noticed I dont think I can hear fuel pump priming. I have checked all grounds,  battery terminals, dizzy leads, checked pump relay is in properly (not tried a replacement yet) and tried a different tci-h module but still just turning over.

Any ideas before I get it towed down the toad? I don't have a multimeter so can test much in that regard. The car does have 189k and the coil is looking original could it be that?

Many thanks!

Tom

Have you checked to see if you have fuel through the injectors? All wires to the coil and earths?

Apologies for late reply ive been away with work last week. Im not too sure about the fuel from injectors I will have to test that but I would imagine not if the fuel pump doesnt prime?

I have replaced the coil for a new one, and checked all wiring to it and earths as best I can tell they seem okay.

I am leaning towards wiring. I have tried bridging the ignition switch however it still didnt start. I have also tried a (new) replacement relay and the pump still does not prime, but if i use the 18 relay the fuel pump does prime. Car will still not start however. Grrrrrrr
