wheel offset question
« on: 01 February 2014, 22:09 »
Will a BBS 16" split rim with an offset of ET51 fit directly on my standard MK3 GTi without any significant issues?

I noticed that the 16" Anni rims had an offset of ET43

here's a calculator that will show the difference (in german but does not really require much to work it out :) )

Your going to need 10mm spacers or they will hit the shocks.

Thanks lads, think I'll hold out for a set of the OEM BBS 16" wheels fitted to the anni or maybe even a set of 15" pepperpots, think they'd look good on a black GTi....

Don't want to go crazy on price as plan to fit a new full set of rubber, 2 on mine were manufactured in 2000! Better get them off quick!

Is there any good reason not to run a set of 15" BBS wheels with a slightly different tyre size to that recommended for the MK3 GTi?

Recco is 205/50/r15

I've been offered a set with:

195/55/r15 (Polo spec)

Mine has standard suspension

My instinct says I shouldn't but when I put it in the tyre calculator it shows that the rolling radius is only 1.7% different.....

I can't imagine an extra 5mm will look radically different either?

Help appreciated

I once used up some tyres in the same 195 55 15 size on my mk3 16v. I didnt notice any difference in performance!!

But are these wheels from a polo? Correct me if im wrong but they are narrow. 6/6.5" wide? I wouldn't recommend that!

You at least want 7" wide. 8" being very good to fit a wider (more grip) tyre.

6.5 x 15 will be fine, I used a set once as winters on my 8v.

195/55 tyres will affect the gearing however.
