Means you will slightly be travelling faster than originally wheels.

But all cars are slower than what the speedo says. Mine where 5mph slower according to my tom tom. So it nothing to worry about.

You will never be speeding so dont worry.

As Tweed said they will throw it out a little but as and when they wear out you can switch to 19/50's

Is there any good reason not to run a set of 15" BBS wheels with a slightly different tyre size to that recommended for the MK3 GTi?

Recco is 205/50/r15

I've been offered a set with:

195/55/r15 (Polo spec)

Mine has standard suspension

My instinct says I shouldn't but when I put it in the tyre calculator it shows that the rolling radius is only 1.7% different.....

I can't imagine an extra 5mm will look radically different either?

Are you thinking the "55" in the tyre size 195/55/15 is 55mm ?.195 is the width in mm,15 is the rim size in inches.The 55 is the wall height in percentae,i.e. 55% of the width not 55 mm's.

Lol 55mm tyre wall?  thats measured from the bead so it would be like an elastic band.

195 55 15 is more lime 100mm

Yeah, OK, I was being a bit dumb there but if I knew that so well I'd be a tyre fitter.....

I've got that now so cheers to Gasketface for that 

In the end it turned out my original alloy that was leaking had a nail in it and had a bit of corrosion inside the rim so it was stripped down, wire brushed down and a full set of Falken ZE914s were fitted in the correct size....205/50/r15

Drove the old girl back 30 miles or so home up the motorway in torrential rain and it felt like a different car, smoother and far more stable, my other car has permanent quattro and used to decent grip and finally the MK3 didn't feel skippy in the wet, a result
