Gearbox

Running the 8v gearbox on my mk2 abf but don't like the gear ratios as it feels sluggish in the gears almost like there to long. Been looking on the net and there seems to be lots of options and opinions on what the best set up is but nobody seems to agree.
I don't want to change to hydraulic set up so what's best to go for, 02a seems to get mentioned a bit?
Would it be worth getting 8v box rebuilt with different ratios?
Any advice would be great thanks.

Anybody?
Would it be possible to have the 8v box reconditioned with different gear ratios? And what sort of power can that box withstand?
Any help or advice would be great.

The cost of getting the ratios changed I would suggest its prob cheaper to source a good o2A box and fit that

I ve read that people think it feels slower with the 02a box compared to the 8v. I mean obviously it will last with the correct gearbox but it sort of put me off changing mine. I have same as you 8v box on abf lump. O2a in the shed still.

I get nearly 95mph in 3rd @6900rpm with 8v box although I wouldn't trust the 24 year old clocks in it.
No idea wot it does in 4th because it's the Isle of Wight and only short blasts.

maybe your engine needs fine tuning? for all the difference there is in the ratios I would just leave the 020 in until it falls to bits. maybe the engine is still a bit tight after the rebuild.

Not sure what to do? Think ill leave for now and let engine get a few miles on it.
Was thinking of taking it down my local rolling road and having it tunned but seems bit pointless until I get gearbox sorted.

I think your just not revving the engine hard enough . I would get it on the dyno first just to make sure its making good power. the gearbox may not be the issue.
