Intercooler / spec help
« on: 25 November 2013, 10:00 »
Recently bought this intercooler for my Golf Mk4 Gti 1.8t, just wondered if I need anything else before I tackle fitting it.

Also I'm planning on gettin a revo map once I get my k03s, just looking for some info on any other supporting mods I should buy before I map it, any info n links will be very appreciated. I've currently got a full miltek exhaust system , KnN panel filter and a forge 007 DV.

Thanks

In all honesty a bigger core!
That things looks small!

Make sure the pipe work is 2.5"
3" downpipe
Turbo intake pipe
Clutch
Check all pipes for leaks and replace with silicone if necessary
Check for any fault codes and fix any
Port the exhaust manifold
Maybe a couple of other things i can't think of

And get a custom map from r-tech don't get a generic revo crap

+1 on using r-tech for the map even if you have to travel

ideally offer it up befor you start ripping all the old system out as you may find you will need other pipes or fittings

that's a universal kit not one specially made for the golf so be sure it will all fit

2000 GTI 1.8t ARZ, S2000 filter, DSG intake, Forge 007 dv, Catch can, R-tech custom remap, 3" Supersize Silicone TIP, Powerflex dog bone, 'The Beast' FMIC, Ultimate delete, LCR fuel pump, 3" Turbo back, K03 hybrid, Ported Manifold, S3 injectors, 80mm maf = 280bhp 270lbft

Yeah that's a good point actually it's a universal kit....
Will need take offs for recirc valve and n75
And will also need a map sensor pipe.

Also that arrangement of pipe doesn't look like they will work so will probably need to buy some more pipes!

And a load of spare jubilee clips as you'll be popping pipes off every other day! :undecided:

Can I be cheeky and ask how much it was?

That core in fine if you going stage 1 it will hold 34 psi i think i have the same core just need to get my piping.
you will only need a bigger core if your looking at 240bhp+ but on saying that a bigger core wouldn't do any harm.

You pipework will need some tweeking.
I have an AUM and you if you have the same, you will need a MAP sensor pipe and a custom charge pipe that can fit the DV and N75 ontop of that you need some good and I mean GOOD clamps so they don't pop off.

I personally wouldn't use an of them pipes you have as they look to me like they do not have sweded  edges meaning the pipes could pop off under pressure.

I have looked at getting all the correct piping apart from the custom charge pipe with clips and everythign and im looking on around the £150

To be honest dude
You can buy a toyosports core (massive or the medium one) for £85
So if I were you I would sell the intercoller you have for £100 and then buy a new core and you will be in the same position you are now but with a better core and £15 in your pocket

when your wanting clips to hold boost pipes.

dont get any of these makalor/boost pipe clips.

there terible. when you tighten them up you can see them tightening in an oval shpe rather than circle.

go down halfords/b&q and get a couple of joubilee clips.

the old makalor clips i had, i had three snap, and had one boost leak because of them.

joubalee clips are a hell of alot stronger and provide a better seal.
