Help identifying part
« on: 05 November 2013, 21:11 »
Could someone tell me what the part is that sits at the top right side of the engine just below the TIP, it looks like a "flying saucer"

Was driving home with my newborn son and the car started overheating, opened the bonnet and steam/water was pissing out of said part, I plan to replace expansion tank, thermo, coolant and poss water pump, little bit anal at times lol!! But obviously the unidentified part is the prob so need to know what is is

Cheers

It's the s.a.i valve (secondary air intake)

There shouldn't be, it pumps air into the exhaust on startup.

You can just remove it:

Seems like a lot of work!! And to be honest I'd rather spend the time with my son while I'm off work. Does it have a gasket that could have blown??

Fix the problem not the effect. It shouldn't have water /steam coming out of it afaik so removing it is only going to mean the water ends up somewhere else. Sorry I can't be more help I have no idea how water or steam would even get there...
