Fix the problem not the effect. It shouldn't have water /steam coming out of it afaik so removing it is only going to mean the water ends up somewhere else. Sorry I can't be more help I have no idea how water or steam would even get there...

I agree it's there for a reason so....

Just been out to top up fluids, started her up and she lost about 3 quarters of what the expansion tank holds!! Top it up again and left her running for 5 min and no movement,

Then I checked the dip stick and oil cap and found very slight white residue on it (just cap)

Does that mean head gasket is on its way out

Not necessarily, white gunk on the oil cap also occurs if you tend to do short trips.

With the overheating issue, its more likely something else and that was the weakest point in the system.

Check the water pump is actually pumping, easiest way is to take the return hose off the top of the expansion cap and run it into the top of the expansion tank, start the car and get someone else to rev it slightly and see if the speed of the coolant increases into the tank.

It could also be the thermostat

There is still no reason that I can think of for water to be in the SAI system :undecided:

Is it still doing it? If so can you get a short video?

To a risk a drive it to my mums this afternoon, was alright pulled over just under half way there and the water level in the expansion tank had dropped a bit so topped it up and it's been ok, I have noticed a slight leak coming from a hose just under the sai valve! But doesn't look like it's leaking enough for the water level drop as much as it did??

I have also noticed a dry pinkish like powdery residue on a couple of hoses on the left side near the expansion tank....where exactly is the water pump?? Does it sit just under the ex tank on the side if the block above the belt??

Cheers

Sounds like you have a tiny leak from a pipe pin size and will be worse when engine is warmed up , pink powder on pipes will be antifreeze dryed up and the leak will most likly spray on these pipes. Run engine untill hot and check for leak by the pipes with pink powder on.

Benefits - removes a load of hoses/pipes that are prone to breaking, the pump itself is also prone to failing.

The system is only in place for emissions purposes, by removing it you should see no negatives.
