Head gasket changed, still having problems.
« on: 19 October 2013, 19:12 »
My head gasket was changed about 1000 miles or so ago but im still having problems with the expansion tank.
Afetr a run in the car, the tank is either empty or bubbling and boiling.
There is still oil in the expansion tank, mostly on the surface.
The expansion tank will sometimes empty itself as soon as the engine is turned off.

Any point in changing the water pump / cambelt ? Or should I get the petrol and matches out......

Could it be the heat exchanger on top of the oil filter?

As far as I know it was flushed and bled properly, tho the job was done in my works car park where the car broke down.

You may have a crack in your head, do a compression test.

Possible warped block?
I know some times people have them decked.

Just re-read the 1st post, Did you really go through the hassle of removing the head and not replacing the Cambelt and water pump?

At the very least you should have removed the pump for inspection.

Sounds like (in no particular order)
head wasnt skimmed enough
warped block (pretty unlikley)
head bolts not torqued properly
possible faulty expansion cap

what engine wS it? do the heaters still get warm?
when you say the head tank goes dry, where does the water go or are you not too sure? get the car coolant tested and compression tested, thats all i can think of right now! its late lol
i think i love you.....
