1.8T Running Costs

If you're doing trios in heavy traffic get a tdi 130. Plenty of grunt but still good on fuel.
If I'm driving to work I can average between 35-40mpg in my 1.8T.
However if I'm pottering about I get 25-28 mpg.
And as above, full to light I have had between 360-400 each time

1.8T's can be cheap to run if sensible with the right foot.

staying off boost and coasting when in gear i'm getting close to 40mpg driving to work and done over 300 miles since last filled up with £60 of v-power with 1/4 left.

different story when driving properly though 

Too true. Hard to buy a 1.8T and not develop a lead right foot lol

Standard or mapped you can get 35mpg+

Mine is due a map as I have fitted a bigger hybrid and on my last tank I did 150 miles to a full tank

wow ive never seen anywhere near that in my 1.8t i get about 280-300 miles from 75 qwids worth of vpower barely any motorway miles though mostly around town and a roads

That's going to work and back which pretty much solid 50/60 A roads.
When I run around in traffic or here and there I'm lucky to see 250, too tempting to overtake

I can't believe how the 1.8t varies in mpg between car to car, mines running 228bhp with APR maps. If I give it loads to work I get the mpg right down but on a chilled drive to work I can easily get 35+ mpg and that's without really trying. The last owner of mine was getting nearly 40mpg on motorways which is fantastic. But my other 1.8t which I'm selling soon only does around 25mpg at best, it's also running around 227bhp. Seams to me there all a little different on the fuel use.

When I first got mine as a standard car it would do 33mpg no problem. Had a generic map flashed on and CAI filter all was good but started to use a lot more fuel rarely seeing over 20mpg, put that down to the map and flooring it when in fact the PCV pipes had split open along with a duff lambda sensor and it was running like a bag of sh!t.

Fitted a catch can, replaced all of the shot old hoses, new sensor and was getting 70-80 more miles putting £60 in at near empty and 30+ mpg on the display.

A decent remap and good maintenance - well worth doing to avoid going diesel

I do 250 to 260 miles a week on the motorway.  I put £40 in each week. 1.8T 2001
