I've stumbled on a way to get the equivilent of a stage 1 tune on my car for free and without any need to notify my insurers. Car is absolutely flying! Drive a Fiat 500 1.0 for a week before getting back in the Golf....

Indeed! Retraining muscle memory by driving a slower and less responsive car for a while works wonders.

How does the 500 stack up against the old Lupo in driving dynamics Watts?

It's faster! It also stops. It was very difficult to get the Lupo up to any kind of pace to be able to assess any dynamics but it was a decent car to drive due to the solidity. The 500 does feel vaguely nippy and holds on well on tight bends although I find it necessary to brace myself with my leg against the centre console! I've actually been quite enjoying driving it, the gear change is pretty good and given the power available, you find yourself using it a fair bit. It loosened up noticeably around the 600 mile mark and is now more willing to rev. All in all, given how cheap it was, I'm quite impressed.

Judging by how many you see around I think many others enjoy the Italian charm.

A sad day today, I had to remove my DTUK pedalbox to comply with the no mods stance of my new insurer. My renewal was £840 but shopping around got me £502. As much as I love the benefit of the pedalbox I wasn't prepared to pay £338 to enjoy it for another year. I really don't know what it is most insurers have against them, I think it's ignorance and unwillingness to understand.

The pedalbox has been great on both my GTIs, makes them so much more enjoyable to drive. Will see how I get on without, might be that bit extra that pushes me to finally find a new car.

For a while I have wanted to try a set of 18" wheels on the Golf.
As shown, a set of genuine VW Pretoria' in silver.
I am not sure, maybe with a little brake dust & road grime they will calm down a little? 😉

I think they look good. Depending on what wheels you had before, they might appear a little brighter but it’ll probably just take a little time to get used to them.

Thanks, I think you are right it may take a little time..... The other wheels are 19" Brescia, which are black & silver diamond cut. The Bresia fit the arches better, with these smaller silver wheels making the car look longer to me?
