New car detail or DIY
« on: 09 September 2013, 07:41 »
I have has some quotes for a new car detail and tbh they are not bad. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to car detailing. I have been doing some research on what and how etc and I got to thinking that maybe I could do it myself. Obviously not to the same extent as a pro but I have noticed that people on here have.

My clean was going to be along the following lines:

1) Hose car down initially
2) snow foam the car using a karcher foam gun - any good foams you could recommend
3) Hand wash using the two bucket method with lambswool mit and gtechniq g wash
3) Hand dry using microfibre cloths
4) Use Gtechniq C2V3 to seal the entire car and the wheels
5) seal the leathers with gtechniq l1

Is that enough of should I be doing more.

Comments and advice much appreciated.

Thanks

I would suggest a round of iron X (or similar ) gets rid or iron contaminates  and maybe tardis (great stuff ) and then a go with a clay bar then a polish and then ure  c2v3 .
preparation is the key to a really shiny car .
what car are you getting ?
Read the post in this thread about the wifes (not mine )new polo its got all the above points on .

This would be classy as a quick weekend was for me.....

If you are going to do a full detail you need at least 4-8 hours. Thats includes all the tasks you said, plus claybaring, machine cut, machine polish, iron X wheels, seal wheels, coat of sealant, full wax, add touch up paint if needed, wet sand them the day after, tyre sealant, glass polish, full interior vax and clean, wash and seal tail pipes etc....

A detail is everything and more. It has taken me about 6 months to acquire all the products i need.

Thanks guys for the input. To buy all the product will cost the same price as getting the job done professionally. I may look to get it done by a pro then maintain it myself.

Is this for a new car?

If you want to keep costs down i would say get a clay bar as this will remove tar just means a bit more kneading. Polishing can be done by hand if you want.

The main thing i would ask is how are you're going to clean your car, as you can get someone to polish you paint and make it near perfect but if you washing technique isn't right then all that work and money will go to waste.

It is for my new GTD.

I'd look to maintain it properly using the method I set out initially. I wouldn't use the gtechniq sealant with every wash but I would look to top it up once every couple of months.

Have you got any pictures of the paint.

personally i wouldnt think that it would be that uch work considering it is a new car.

i would say a clay and a light polish (to get rod of any marring from the claying process) should be enough to sort the paint out before you to apply sealant.
Personally its not that hard to do. the getting started is the hardest part after thats its easy.
