Just had a phone call from Shabaz at VWCS.
He has told me that my car is still at BW51 this is due to a production problem with the GTI/GTD.

It seems that there are going to be a lot of unacceptable delays coming.

If it is GTI and GTD then it cannot be the engine (thought that maybe Seat FR were grabbing a lot of GTD engines). So Shabaz couldn't be any more specific on the delay cause? Sure you're not being bullsh!tted? Sounds that at least your dealer isn't at fault and it is all down to VW.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

He couldn't elaborate, the trouble is you never know who is telling the truth. I spoke to one lady at VWCS this morning who couldn't see a problem with waiting for 10 months for a golf, whereas Shabaz thinks its ridiculous.

Blimey, this is getting ridiculous.  I think if that had happened to me, I'd be cancelling too.  It's a bog-standard VW, not a hand-built supercar.

It's ridiculous. I ordered my car on Saturday 27th April and at the time was promised an August delivery which never happened. I wasn't too fussed as it'd slipped to an October delivery at that point, I was happy to wait a bit longer.

I'm then expecting Build Week confirmed this week, for Week 37 production which has been estimated for a few months now.

I ring VW again just now to check, Build week 51! Stating "production problems on the GTI and GTD but I don't have specifics".

I haven't even waited 4 months up to press, and I'm not waiting another 5 (At Least). There's waiting for something and then there's just downright taking the piss.

I was prepared to let it slip the first time, absolutely no way now.

I'm just waiting on my salesman to ring me back. If they can't find something brand new with the spec I want pretty quick then i'm going to have to order a 120d. It was my second choice car but on principle I'm not allowing VW to take the piss out of me. They have a Night Blue GTD 5 door in the showroom that i'd take. Only problem is it doesn't have leather but I can live without it.

I'll report back on what I hear.

Is this only happening to GTD orders? If so it's probably demand for the Engine or associated components now Seat/Skoda/VW and Audi are introducing it across the range (i.e. vRS and A3)

If my build week was put back that much I'd likely cancel and go else where (Petrol - back to looking at M135i and S3, Diesel - probably the A3 with the 185PS Engine!)

Week 51 is what I'd expect from a new order!!!
Oct 2013: GTI, DSG, 3 Door, Carbon Grey, DynAudio, Winter Pack, Discovery Navigation and Keyless Start
Jan 2018: Arteon R-Line, Atlantic Blue
Jan 2021: tbc!

That is just crazy - I wonder whether any others beyond BW37 confirmed are going to get the same treatment? What do the GTI/GTD share that no other Golf variant does? Shortage of Jacara cloth (both types)? Steeirng wheel inserts? Colour MFD? Xenon headlights or unique LED tail lights?

If one of those is the reason, my money would be on the lights. I wouldn't be put off by the lack of leather if I were you - the Jacara cloth has a huge visual impact on the internals.

If it is the GTD engine then you'll probably get no joy with an A3 with the same engine. If I had to change and there's nothing out there I want then i'd probably go for an A1 S-line and run it a year before handing over to the wife - she wants one when I get my redundancy lumper (and then back in work in a new job) - she needs to pass her test first!
