You guys are lucky that you have wife's who are into cars and who let you have a say. My partner has just traded her cooper s in for a DS3 because of the "nice sparkly lights"   oh well at least it's a sport model but its not a patch on the cooper s performance. At least my spine won't be shattering any longer from the run flats.

Some nice extras there! I assume the visibility pack are the xenons? I agree, a must. We won't go for leather either, although its much better than the VW leather and cheaper at £800, it's still £800 (plus another £295 for heated seats). Other extras we'll have is the Nav (she needs it), the Harmon Kardon system and probably the interior light pack as well. I'd love to add more like the folding mirrors and parking sensors but like you say you have to draw the line somewhere!

The HK is fantastic but double the cost of the loud speaker upgrade which already sounds 100% better than our old Golf as i have it in my 3 series so we are pleased.

What colour you aiming for?

2016 Golf R | 3dr | DSG | Reflex Silver | 19" Pretoria Alloys | 90% Tints | Nav | Winter Pack | App Connect

Estoril blue, the missus loves it!  I may yet go for the loudspeaker system as she's not bothered but I'll need some form of sound upgrade for when I borrow her car!  And its cheaper and will sound better than the normal system (which is pants, the one in my 3 series was awful).  Just a shame we have to wait until next year to get it as she can't hand her car back till then!

I do quite like the 1 Series in M Sport guise. The 120d was the only other car I looked at before deciding on the GTD.

I really took the huff with BMW the second I found out things like Dimming Rear View Mirror, Lumbar Support and Split Folding Rear seats were optional extras.
Currently Driving: Mini Cooper SD | Chilli Red | Black Roof | Often mistaken for my girlfriend's car..

That's the only trouble with BMW.  All the standard kit that's on the GTI/D eg. parking sensors, folding mirrors etc are an option.  Individually they're not too bad price wise, but then once you add a few on it suddenly adds up!

Well that's it.

Just out of interest i've checked, and standard kit on the Golf which is optional (Or not even available) on the 1 Series includes - Tinted Windows, Headlight Washers, Xenons, Auto Lights, Auto Wipers, Folding Mirrors, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Radar Cruise Control, Adaptive Steering, Folding Rear Seats, Lumbar Support, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Cornering Headlights, Speed Limit Display, Motorway Lane assist..

The list is endless. Then to add the Visibility pack (Which I also agree is a must have) costs £1,100!!! For stuff that should be standard on a car of this level.

Then there's the expense of other options such as £330 for the reversing camera, or £600 for Front & Rear Parking sensors. It really does baffle the mind.

When you list it out like that, that's a shed load of options that are free on the golf!  Just shows what good value it really is!

Isn't lane assist a £500 option on the Golf? It's not standard.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
