@matchboy:

125d M Sport is a superb car and so is the 120d M Sport. Sensible choices. Congratulations.

The BMW F20 Series is not ugly to these eyes. It's an organic looking design and in M Sport guise and with the right engine, it is very much a Premium Performance Hot Hatchback.

Next to the F20 series, the Golf, whether it is a GTI or not, looks like a box and the Audi A3 Sportback reminds one of a breadvan. The BMW is my No1 choice (I really have warmed to its design) and I don't mind the Golf box which has its particular charm and unique look. But I simply cannot warm to the third car in this trio especially as a Sportback.

The ZF 8 speed Sport Auto box is tremendous. I would sacrifice xDrive just for the box.

Enjoy.

They are great cars, I really enjoyed driving the 125d.  But just to clarify if I hadn't of all ready ordered a GTI then that's what she'd be buying - the 1 series is very nice - but it's no GTI.

We have just traded our MK6 Gti for a 120d M-Sport, test drove the 120d, 125d and also the M135i and sadly sensible head took over and we went for the lower power option bit it's a lovely car.

The addition of the Visibility pack has helped a bit with its ugly nose, but 3 door really boosts the rest of the aesthetics.

Not sure what delivery date you have been told but we are looking at last week in September, which is not too shabby.

Thanks Raffe, that's good to know as it'll probably be the 120d we plump for. We were told 8-10 weeks from placing the order.

Yeah I like it. 0-60 in 7.2 secs & 4WD - and unlike most we both like the look of the 1 series!!  :laugh:

@matchboy:
Smart choice. Great bit of mixing. Two excellent cars and quite different. What fun. As they say, variety is the spice of life.

@Raffe:
Hope you enjoy your car when it arrives.

Both Mk7 Golfs and BMW 1 Series are excellent cars. I'd be happy with either as long as the Mk7 Golf chosen has multilink rear suspension.

In all honesty the 120d felt plenty punchy enough, and the 125d didn't seem enough of a power jump to justify additional cost.

Good luck on your choice, it took us 2 hours in the dealership to finalise spec, good fun though  :cool:

We ended up with a Mineral Grey 3 door with Visibility Pack (a must have) Comfort Pack (rear pdc, cruise & servo assisted steering) Sun Protection Pack and BMW loudspeaker upgrade.

Wife doesn't do lots of travelling so no need for Nav, doesn't like the leather in our Golf so stuck with cloth and prefers a manual even though I did my best to get the auto.

Only thing I probably should have added was the black panel display and folding mirros but we had to draw a line in the sand and stop adding bits :grin:

Good luck  :cool:

Some nice extras there! I assume the visibility pack are the xenons? I agree, a must. We won't go for leather either, although its much better than the VW leather and cheaper at £800, it's still £800 (plus another £295 for heated seats). Other extras we'll have is the Nav (she needs it), the Harmon Kardon system and probably the interior light pack as well. I'd love to add more like the folding mirrors and parking sensors but like you say you have to draw the line somewhere!
